Spaghetti Dinner Sunday, October 3

Troop 24’s charter organization, Riverside Presbyterian Church, is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday, October 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The dinner will be cooked and served by the church’s youth group (some of whom are fellow scouts) and includes spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and a beverage. At the dinner will be a Silent Service Auction, where people can bid on services offered by RPC members and friends. The bids will be anonymously placed in a jar and at the end of the evening the service item will go to the highest bidder. You will not have to be present to win. Tickets are $10 Adults, $5 Children (3-12), and children 2 years and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online, or in the church office.

Centennial Camporee October 22-24

Troop 24 is planning an overnight outing to the Voyager Trace District BSA Centennial Camporee from Friday, October 22, to Sunday, October 24 in Woodstock, IL. Voyageur Trace District invites all DPVC troops to participate in a special fall camporee commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Please join us in taking a look back at the beginnings of American scouting at a camporee with activities and programs drawn from the 1911 Handbook for Boys. Scouts should be dropped off at RPC at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 10/22. They will return mid-day on Sunday, 10/24. The cost for this outing is $15. The adult leaders in charge will be Mike Payne and Stephanie Lanken. Please fill out a form for each scout.

The deadline to sign up has been extended to Monday, October 18, 9:00 a.m. Please register your scout now.

Last Chance for EAA Outing

Registration for the Troop’s outing to the Experimental Aviation Association Museum in Osh Kosh will close at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29. We have 14 scouts registered and have room for 20. Register online here. If you have not yet paid for the outing, please pay online or drop off a check for $35, made out to Troop 24, to Dawn Gmitro no later than Wednesday.

Parents: Turn in BLUE FORMS

All scout families should have received a packet of information that included 3 blue forms and 1 green form. Our new online registration system will only work if we receive the blue forms back from you. Before your scout can attend a troop outing we need to have a completed Parent Authorization Form and Photo Release Form. Please send the forms with your scout to the Thursday Troop meeting. The green form, to be signed by the scout, is to be returned with a check for $25 no later than October 21; however, we’ll take them earlier!

Kennedy-Nixon Debate Payment

Registration was open for the Kennedy-Nixon Debate outing before we had online payment available. For those who have already registered for the event, but need to pay, you can do so here:
Kennedy-Nixon Payment

We have 3 scouts & 4 adults registered so far (which does not include our tour leader & his son, who still need to register!) Registration is only open until Wednesday, September 22.

Popcorn

Mrs. Ricchio distributed information about popcorn sales to the Scouts on at the Troop meeting on September 16. Unlike Pack 24, Troop 24 does not use popcorn income for general troop activities; instead, the profit from any popcorn your scout sells is held by the troop in an account specifically for his use–for summer camp, outings, bus fare to camp, etc.

This year popcorn orders are due October 18. Orders can be dropped off at a Troop meeting or at Mrs. Ricchio’s home. (The mail slot goes into her house.) Please drop off checks only. Any cash should be converted to a check from the scout parent.

Popcorn pickup will be Saturday, November 27, noon to 3:00 p.m.

Included with the packet were directions for ordering popcorn online – in case you have family & friends who would like to order, but live out of town.

If you son did not pick up his packet, or if you have questions, please contact Renee Ricchio.

Bugling Contest at October Outing

Our Voyageur Trace District Centennial Camporee will be held October 22-24, at Camp Lakota near Woodstock. Focusing on historic scouting skills, one of the events will be a bugling contest. Buglers should know the following calls: Taps, Reveille, Call to Colors, Assembly, and as many additional calls as they can learn. Any scouts who are interested in participating may want to visit the US Army’s music website at http://bands.army.mil/music/bugle/. The troop does own one bugle, and if multiple scouts are interested, we can possibly borrow others. If trumpeters are interested in participating we will have to inquire about the rules (valves/no valves). Interested scouts should contact Mr. Payne.

Want to learn more about bugles? Check here.
