Ice Skating Merit Badge December 30

Looking for something to do over break? The Park District of Oak Park is offering a Skating Merit Badge class at the Ridgeland Commons on December 30. More information is available here: http://www.pdop.org/scouts_on_ice/

Eagle Cave January 23, 2015

We have 6 spots left for the outing to Eagle Cave in Blue River, Wisconsin. We also need drivers in order to hold this event.

We will leave on Friday, January 23, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. (The time will be determined once drivers are established.) Scouts will return to RPC on Sunday, January 25, around 1:00 p.m.

The cost for this outing is $82.

We will need approximately 4-5 leaders to drive and attend. Due to the distance, we assume those adults will also be staying. There is no cost for the adult leaders.

There are a limited number of tickets for this outing; therefore, the first scouts to register AND pay for this outing will be able to attend.

Scouts will be exploring and sleeping in a cave. In addition to their regular gear (sleeping bag, sleep pad, clothes) scouts should bring two ground clothes or tarps to keep them dry while sleeping. Additionally, scouts may choose to bring a small sled and clothing needed to go sledding. Scouts must travel in their Class A uniforms and should bring money to stop for dinner. Contact Dawn Gmitro at dmgmitro@aol.com with questions.

Please fill out a form for each scout. There is a separate registration for for the adults.

Thanks for Holiday Stroll

Thank you to all who helped at the Holiday Stroll, and especially our coordinator, Susan Lynch, and the scouts who worked more than one shift, Andy C and Michael L. We received donations of over $200, which will be given to the Riverside Township Food Pantry.

Eagle Scout Project Help Needed 12/20

Scout assistance is needed with Cody L’s Eagle Project tomorrow from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Social Hall (downstairs) at RPC. Drop your scout off and go Christmas shopping! Scouts who assist will receive service hours.

HELP Needed with Holiday Stroll

We are still in need of scout and adult assistance at the Holiday Stroll in Riverside, this Friday, December 5. Because the proceeds from our s’mores donations will go to the Riverside Township Food Pantry, service hours will be given.

One shift is full, but we need volunteers for every other shift:

4:30 Set-up: Need 1 adult

5:00-6:00: SHIFT FULL

6:00-7:00: Need 2 adults and 3 scouts

7:00-8:00: Need 1 adult and 1 scout

8:00-9:00: Need 2 adults and 3 scouts

Disability Awareness: Sign up Now

It’s not too late to sign up for the Disability Awareness Merit Badge. We will meet at the North Riverside Commons on WEDNESDAY, December 3, at 6:30 p.m. The Lincolnway Special Recreation Association will be coming with wheelchairs and other interactive devices to teach the scouts what it feels like to have a disability. The Troop is paying for this class; there is no cost to our scouts.

There will be NO REGULAR TROOP MEETING this Thursday, December 4. Instead, Mrs. Lulich and Mrs. Lanken will complete the remaining requirements for the merit badge at RPC at 7:00 in the Social Hall.

We realize that the Thursday class conflicts with the Hauser concert. For those scouts who can not come on Thursday, December 4, we will schedule an additional session to complete the badge. The date will depend on how many scouts are involved, and their schedules; it’s possible that it will be in 2015.
