Scouting for Food Service Projects

Service Project coming up this month:

Scouting for Food is the Boy Scouts of America’s nationwide service project to help stop hunger in our communities. It began as a Scout’s service project in St. Louis, MO in 1985 and was adopted by the Boy Scout National Organization in 1988.

Pathway to Adventure Council will hold a council-wide Scouting for Food program that takes place on two consecutive weekends.

  • On the first weekend, Scouts distribute bags or door hangers within their assigned area to let their neighbors know about the drive.
  • On the second weekend, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up nonperishable items.

Our Troop will then drop off collected food items at the Riverside Presbyterian Church Little Free Food Pantry. Scouts will receive service hour credit.

Noting that several of you are camping this weekend, if you can assist, please reply to ASM Lauger tlauger@gmail.com for the records.  Another email will be sent to all volunteers.

Thanks!

YIS, ASM Lauger

Last Call for the 10/7-9 Shadows of the Blue and Gray Civil War Re-enactment Campout in Princeton, IL

Hello,

Final reminder; signup closes tomorrow, Tuesday, at noon.

This campout is a good one! We will be camping with actors who perform in the Shadows of the Blue and Gray Civil War Re-enactment ceremony in Princeton, IL.

This is a very interesting opportunity to learn history through an exciting interactive experience that scouts will not forget. This is also a relaxing campout for adults because programming is all taken care of.

Not only will you be able to watch presentations from President Lincoln, General Grant, and a Victorian Tea demonstration in the Main building, but you can also watch while Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery perform their duties in a narrated mock battle. After the battle, you are invited to watch a surgery in the medical tent, hear the beautiful music from Tank and the Beez outside the Main building, and experience a promotion of a young soldier on Saturday.

There will also be Sutler tents set up for  Scouts to shop in and participate in a scavenger hunt and turn it in at the merchandise table for a prize. Signup forms are below and if you have any issues with the form please email troop24events@gmail.com, thank you!!

Adult Volunteers needed for an Eagle Board of Review

I am in need of 3-4 adults to sit on an Eagle Board of Review on Wednesday, July 13 at 7:00 PM at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. Current Eagle Scouts who are 18 are encouraged to volunteer.  Sitting on an Eagle Board is a very rewarding opportunity to be a part of a Scout’s final step to achieving the rank of Eagle. No experience is necessary.  If you have not sat on an Eagle Board previously I can provide you with resources to familiarize yourself with topics that are discussed at the Board.  Additionally, the Board is run by our Council Representative. The time commitment is approximately 1-1 1/2 hrs.  Wearing a mask is recommended.

If you are available to help please RSVP by email me at dmgmitro@aol.com.

Thank you,

Dawn Gmitro
