Of course there will be no troop meeting this week. But don’t forget to look through our recent messages, and sign up for the Holiday Stroll and Star Wars movie. And if you haven’t done so yet, we really need you to pay your dues!!

Next week, we will hold Boards of Review, so please sign up for a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review if you are ready.

Patrol leader Council will meet next Tuesday, November 28 at 6pm at Riverside Presbyterian Church.

Troop 24 Eagle Scout Needs Your Help

Eagle Scout Elijah Ourth embodies the true spirit of Scouting in all that he does.  He started as a Pack 24 Cub Scout camping at the Scout Cabin and ultimately joined his fellow Troop 24 Boy Scout friends on epic high adventure outings to explore the great outdoors.  But Elijah wanted more, he spent his senior year of high school as an exchange student in Sweden and became a member of the Swedish Scouting program.  Elijah did a solo kayak trek down the length of the Kankakee River as a high school student.  Now Elijah looks to tackle a 300 km dog sled trip at the Arctic Circle through Sweden and Norway, but he needs the help of his Troop 24 family.  To enter the race, Elijah needs to win a contest by gathering as many votes as he can.  Please go to http://polar.fjallraven.com/contestant/?id=213 to vote for Elijah.  Watch his video and you will see a few photographs of his Troop 24 High Adventure trips. If you can share or post something on your own Facebook page or e-mail the link to your friends, that would be great too!

Star Wars Movie Tickets

Tickets for our private showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi may now be purchased for Troop 24 scouts and leaders AND their family members. We hope you can join Troop 24 for a matinee showing of the newest Star Wars episode on Saturday, December 16 at 9:45am at the North Riverside Mall Classic Cinemas theatre. Doors open at 9:15am.

This is a joint activity with Pack 24 Cub Scouts. Troop leaders will be present for check in and throughout the event, so Boy Scouts can attend without their parent. We ask that siblings attend with a parent please.

The cost is $7 per person. Please sign up and pay here.

1,000 Trees Service Project

It would be great to have a few more scouts and leaders helping with Riverside’s annual 1,000 Trees Planting Project. On Saturday, November 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we meet at the Riverside Town Hall Second Floor Auditorium for a training. We will then head out together to plant previously collected tree seeds along the Des Plaines River. When we are done, we’ll go to the Scout Cabin to return tools and enjoy soup, chili and hot cocoa. This reforestation effort will be fun, rewarding and easy, and this project will earn scouts conservation service hours needed for rank advancement. Participants should wear warm clothes, gloves, boots and a hat, or whatever outerwear is appropriate for the day’s weather. Scouts do not need to commit to the entire time period to participate.
