Den Chief Training September 8

Important information for scouts who need a Troop job for advancement (Scouts of 1st Class rank or above).

Des Plaines Valley Council will offer Den Chief training on Saturday, September 8, in LaGrange Highlands. Den chiefs work with the den leader to plan, prepare, and run the meeting. The Troop has been asked by the Pack to assist them by providing den chiefs. In addition to helping the Pack, it allows boy scouts to fulfill a requirement for rank advancement. Due to the size of our Troop, it is difficult to provide enough “jobs” within the Troop, potentially delaying a scout’s advancement.

Especially if your family has a boy scout as well as a cub scout, this is an excellent opportunity, but the job is open to any scout of 1st class rank or above.

There is a short window for registering (by September 4), so please print out the registration form. There is a cost of $5. Contact Asst. Scoutmaster Mark Janopoulos (mark@janopoulos.com) with any questions.

Scout Cabin Camp-out September 7

The first Troop meeting of the year will be at the Scout Cabin on Friday, September 7. We’ll be cooking (good for scouts needing to earn the cooking requirements!) and will likely have an outdoor movie as well. Scouts should be dropped off at the Scout Cabin at 7:00 p.m. and picked up on Saturday morning by 9:00 a.m. (scouts can call for pick-up). Scouts should come prepared to sleep in tents for the night. A light breakfast will be served on Saturday morning. There is NO COST for this outing, but we need to know how many to plan for, so we’re asking that you sign up in advance at http://troop24riverside.com/2012/08/scout-cabin-campout-form-sept-7-2012/

Scout Father in Hospice Care

Tim Lanners, scout Killian’s father, is now in hospice care. Some of you may not know Tim, as he has been battling cancer since about the time Killian crossed over. Families from Pack 120 will remember Tim’s tremendous help with the Pack. Scout families are invited to visit Tim’s CarePage to offer support to him and his family. You will need to create a login before you can see Tim’s page. The link is: http://www.carepages.com/carepages/TimNews
