Camp Tesomas

For those who have not heard, Camp Tesomas was SO AWESOME that we have reserved the same campsite for the week of July 21-27 of 2013. For scouts who are also planning to go to Philmont, it will be possible to do both, as the dates do not overlap.

Photos of camp will soon be available on the website. Scouts or leaders who have pictures to share are invited to send them to Nancy Hopkins at nmhopkins1@comcast.net. (Please put them on a CD if you have many).

Final Tesomas Reminders

The bus will load at Veterans Park in North Riverside on 26th Street. Please be there at 6:30 a.m.

Scouts who are taking prescription medications should bring the medication in the original bottle clearly marked with the scout’s name, and all medication for that scout in a ziplock bag. Please look for Cindy Andersen in the morning to turn in the medication.

A few parents have to fill in missing information on the medical forms. Please see Liz Gomorczak in the morning to take care of those details.

According to Accuweather, our hottest day will be Monday, with a high of 92. The remainder of the week is forecast for low 80’s, with rain possible on Tuesday and Friday. Lows at night can be in the low 50’s so be sure your scout is prepared for all types of weather.

If possible (depending on Internet access) you’ll receive periodic updates via Feedblitz.

Bus will Leave from 26th Street Veterans Park

Due to construction at Hauser, the bus to Camp Tesomas will leave from Veterans Park in N. Riverside, on 26th Street between DesPlaines & Harlem. Scouts should be there at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Ax Yard Reminder – 6:30 TONIGHT

Scouts who are taking Woodcarving at camp must have their “Totin Chip” before they start the class. The “Totin Chip” allows a scout to use a knife. Several requirements for 2nd Class rank also involve knife & ax safety. Any scout who has not earned 2nd Class 3c and 3d is also encouraged to come to the Ax Yard tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Janopoulos home at 360 Nuttall Road.

We could use some older scouts to help. Please sign up if you are coming to earn the Totin Chip, or to help.

Tesomas Bike Update

For scouts & leaders taking bikes to Tesomas, drop-off will NOT be at the Hartwig house. Please drop off your bikes, instead, to the Connelly home: 339 Herrick in Riverside. Bike drop off is from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.

Please have your bike inspected before you drop it off. The Wheel Thing in LaGrange has offered to do the inspections for free with a discount on any labor required to fix your bike. You can also use any other bike shop. Don’t forget to bring the bike inspection receipt and the bike agreement form when you drop off your bike.

Pizza Booth Reminder

All workers for the Pizza Sale – some reminders:

1) Wear a hat for food service (we will have paper hats if needed)
2) Wear sunscreen
3) Class B t-shirts are OK. Clean and neat shorts/jeans, closed toe shoes are requested.
4) Come on time – we have enough, but deliberately did not over-staff this year, so we need you to be prompt!
5) Come ready to work
6) Bring money for pizza – we will have water for workers, but not for sale.

We will be in Booth 12 – it will be on the sidewalk running diagonally through the part, nearest the street running in front of the Library.
See you all tomorrow!

Ax Yard on July 9

Scouts who are taking Woodcarving at camp must have their “Totin Chip” before they start the class. The “Totin Chip” allows a scout to use a knife. The Scout must show his Scout leader, or someone designated by his leader, that he understands his responsibility to do the following:

Read and understand woods tool use and safety rules from the Boy Scout Handbook.
Demonstrate proper handling, care, and use of the pocket knife, ax, and saw.
Use the knife, ax, and saw as tools, not playthings.
Respect all safety rules to protect others.
Respect property. Cut living and dead trees only with permission and with good reason.
Subscribe to the Outdoor Code.

The Scout’s “Totin’ Rights” can be taken from him if he fails in his responsibility.

We will have an Ax Yard set up on July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Janopoulos home at 360 Nuttall Road. Several requirements for 2nd Class rank also involve knife & ax safety. Scouts who lack these requirements will be receiving an e-mail inviting them to attend on July 9.

We could use some older scouts to help. Please sign up if you are coming to earn the Totin Chip, or to help.

Merit Badge Prerequisites

We are only 2 weeks away from summer camp! Please make sure that you look at and work on the prerequisites required for your merit badges. The best way to complete your merit badges at camp is by doing the work before you get there. You can find the prerequisites here: http://clsr.samoset.org/resources/TSCPrerequisites.pdf
