Bike Inspection for Camp – July 6

Bike inspection for camp will take place Thursday, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Janopoulos’ house at 360 Nuttall in Riverside. We don’t want scouts to get to camp and have problems with their bikes, so the inspection is mandatory. If you know that your bicycle needs repair you will need to bring the needed parts with you and we will repair the bike that day.

You can also take your bicycle to any bike shop for inspection. Ask the bike shop to provide a paper saying that it is good working order.

We strongly encourage every scout to bring a bike. The camp is very large and it makes it much faster and easier to get around. Bikes are necessary for scouts taking archery and shooting sports because the ranges are quite far from our campsite.

An Ax Yard training will also be taking place at the Janopoulos’ house at the same time. Scouts who need to earn the “Totin’ Chip” in order to take the Woodcarving Merit Badge class will learn about and practice how to safely use knives and axes. A Totin’ Chip is required to possess or purchase a pocket knife at camp.

This summer we will not be able to offer our usual pre-camp CPR training. CPR training is one of the requirements for the merit badges Canoeing, First Aid, Lifesaving and Small-Boat Sailing. Scouts taking these merit badges will be able to take the CPR training at camp. CPR training is offered each weekday at 3 to 4 pm in the Personal Wellness program area. Scouts do not need to pre-register and only need to attend one session to complete the training.

Adult Volunteers needed for Eagle Project Presentations

We have another opportunity to support our Eagle Candidates by attending an Eagle project proposal meeting. In this phase of the project the Candidate writes a proposal and presents the idea to a group from the Troop who will assess whether the project is viable, meets the Eagle project requirements and provides the Scout with ideas and suggestions as he moves forward. This meeting will be Wednesday, June 21 at 7:00 until approximately 8:30-9 PM.  We have several Scouts who have prepared their proposals who need to present.  If you cannot attend for the whole meeting, no problem, just let me know approximately what time you can be there.   No experience necessary for meeting.

If you are interested or have questions please let me know.

Thank you,

Thursday Meeting Tonight

We will be cleaning the camping equipment tonight from the Kankakee Camp Out.  All the scouts that went to Kankakee are required to be at RPC at 7:00.  We can use all the help we can get, so all scouts are invited to lend a hand and prepare the equipment for Summer Camp.

Adult Volunteers Needed for Eagle Board of Review

There is lots of activity on the Eagle front lately and I am looking for 3-4 adults to sit on an Eagle Board of Review on Tuesday June 13th at 7:00 PM. Sitting on an Eagle Board it is a very rewarding opportunity to be a part of a Scout’s final step to achieving the rank of Eagle. If you have not sat on an Eagle Board before I can provide you with some resources to familiarize your self with topics that are discussed at the Board. Additionally, the Board is run by our Council Representative. We will meet at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. The time committment is approximately 1 to and 1 1/2 hours.

We also have an other opportunity to support our Eagle Candidates by attending a project proposal meeting. In this phase of the project the Candidate writes a proposal and presents the idea to a group from the Troop who will assess whether the project is viable, meets the Eagle project requirements and provides the Scout with ideas and suggestions as he moves forward. This meeting will be Wednesday, June 14 at 7:00 PM. This time committment is approx. 45 mins. No experience necessary for either meeting.

If you are interested or have questions please let me know.
