Help Needed for Kenya Medical Mission

Scoutmasters Stephanie Lanken and Brad Lanken will be going on a medical mission trip to Kenya in September. We invite scout family assistance if you are able to help. The mission will need various over-the-counter meds and supplies to stock a pharmacy. The medicines must have expiration dates later than 10/30/13. Because the medicines must be shipped by June 29, Stephanie would need to receive those by June 27. Medications needed are:

Visine or any allergy eye drops
Robitussin
Cough lozenges
Zantac
Tagamet
Maalox tablets
Maalox liquid
Tums
Excedrin
Aspirin 81mg and 325mg
Tylenol – adult, children’s and chewable and elixir
Ibuprofen
Naproxen
Benadryl 25mg
Benadryl liquid for children
Calcium with Vitamin D Ferrous sulfate 325mg
Multivitamins – children
Multivitamins – adult
Preparation H
Hydrocortisone cream
Triple antibiotic ointment

Always thinking of what kids like, Stephanie is also planning to take 10-20 soccer balls, deflated, to entertain kids who might otherwise be kicking rocks in play. If you would like to donate a soccer ball, Stephanie will be taking those in her personal luggage.

Finally, the cost for Stephanie and Brad is $3,000 per team member. Donations made to assist in covering trip costs are tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation, please print a form here: Kenya Mission Form and mail it with a check.

Need Scout Help on June 25

All scouts who are available are asked to come to RPC at 5:00 on Tuesday, June 25. We’ll meet at the garage (where the trailer is stored) to ready our equipment for Camp Tesomas. Specifically we’ll need scout assistance to set up all our tents to see if any have missing or broken poles, etc., that will need to be replaced before camp. Many hands make light work, so please come if you are in town.

Pancake Breakfast for Flood Relief June 8

There will be a Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, June 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church & School, 47th & Brainard in La Grange. All proceeds benefit Forest View flood victims. Entrance donation: $10/person or $25/family. Tickets available at the door, from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Troop 24 Badge

Troop 24 was founded in March of 1917, which made the troop 95 years old in 2012. We ordered custom Troop numbers to commemorate our longevity.

In 2017 we’ll be eligible for a 100-year patch. In the meantime, any scout or leader who does not have the 95-year patch – please contact Nancy Hopkins at nmhopkins1@comcast.net with your address, and we’ll drop a patch at your home.
