Winter Tesomas 2022 – President’s Day Weekend, February 19-21

It’s almost time for our annual trek back up to Tesomas Scout Camp President’s Day weekend!

Hanna Winter Resort provides everything Scouts BSA Members need to have an incredible outdoor winter experience. Enjoy the pristine winter northwoods environment around the Hanna Venture Base and the freedom to do nearly any winter activity you want.  Before and after lunch campers can use the camp snowshoes, broomball equipment, and ice fishing gear; it is a blast! Scroll down to see pictures from previous trips.

We will leave at 8am Saturday morning, drive to Rhinelander, go tubing in the afternoon at Sylvan Hill Park, have dinner and then drive to Camp Tesomas for two nights, leaving Monday shortly after breakfast. For this trip we stop on the way there and the way back to eat lunch so Scouts have to bring about $20-$25 to cover the cost of meals to/from camp.

Scout Sunday – February 6

Riverside Presbyterian Church, our charter organization, invites you to attend RPC on Scout Sunday, February 6. RPC’s Service of Worship begins at 10:00 a.m. with Coffee Fellowship to follow in the Social Hall. Please wear your Class A uniform and encourage family members to wear their uniform as well (Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, etc.).

The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in houses of worship aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out their “Duty to God” pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a “Scout is Reverent” and Scouts promise to do their “Duty of God” in the Scout Oath.

Scout families who would like to provide treats for the coffee hour after the service are invited to drop them off in the Social Hall kitchen of the church any time between 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. Thanks for your contribution & hope to see you there!
Please sign up to usher, etc. at this link.

If you can’t join us at RPC, wear your uniform proudly to whatever house of worship you attend to show the community what we mean when we say “a Scout is Reverent.”

Klondike Derby – Saturday, January 22, 2022

Troop 24 will be entering the Klondike Derby at National Grove-South (McCormick Woods) at Des Plaines Ave & 29th Street in North Riverside on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Scouts will meet at Riverside Presbyterian Church at 7:30 a.m. and return the same day at approximately 3:00 p.m.

We will form our annual Lost Boy Patrol of 8 scouts to take the Troop 24 sled through a course of Scout Craft activities and compete in the Iditarod Sled Race in the afternoon. The Lost Boy patrol will meet during the Thursday meeting on Jan 20 to prepare for the race, review their scout skills, and get the sled ready to fly! All Klondike Derby activities will be outside, so scouts should dress appropriately for the weather.

The cost of this outing will be $10.00 and a can of non-cream soup (to be dumped into the “Klondike Kettle”). Scouts should also bring a sack lunch/snack to accompany the soup, a water bottle/canteen for the trail, and a lot of enthusiasm to bring home the Gold!

We are in need of leaders and drivers. Since this outing is close, drivers do not need to stay. Adults are welcome to stay and participate. Space is limited for this outing. The deadline to register is Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

Please note that as this is BSA Council sponsored event, the following rules are in effect: “We will require all who use any of the properties owned by the Pathway to Adventure Council as well as all official events run by the Council to provide a vaccination card OR a negative COVID-19 test within 24 hours before attending a scheduled event. Masks are required, regardless of vaccination status.”
