Klondike Derby – January 21, 2017

Troop 24 is planning a day outing to Bemis Woods South on Saturday, January 21, 2017, to participate in the Voyageur Trace District’s Klondike Derby. Scouts will meet at RPC at 7:30 a.m. and return the same day at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Troop 24 won first place at last year’s Klondike Derby and we need to bring one patrol of scouts to defend our title. The patrol will take our sled through a course of morning activities and compete in the VT Iditarod Sled Race in the afternoon. Scouts should be prepared for fun and challenges. All activities will be outside, so scouts should dress appropriately for the weather.

The cost of this outing will be $7.00 and a can of non-cream soup (to be dumped into the “Klondike Kettle”). Scouts should also bring a sack lunch/snack to accompany the soup.

We are in need of leaders and drivers. Since this outing is close, drivers do not need to stay. Adults are welcome to stay and participate. Space is limited for this outing. The deadline to register is Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Contact Carrie Staubus at carrie@staubus.net with any questions.

Our January event will be an outing to Eagle Cave in Blue River, Wisconsin. Scouts will be exploring and sleeping in an onyx cave. In addition to their regular gear (sleeping bag, sleep pad, clothes) scouts should bring two ground clothes or tarps to keep them dry while sleeping. Scouts are asked to travel in their Class A uniforms and should bring money to stop for dinner.

There are a limited number of tickets for this outing; therefore, the first scouts to register AND pay for this outing will be able to attend.  In order to secure our reservation, the Troop purchased tickets for this outing that are non-refundable; therefore, we will institute a cancellation policy for this particular outing:  if you must cancel two weeks prior to the outing (January 6) 1/2 of your payment can be refunded; under two weeks we are not able to refund your payment.
