Family Night at Michael Anthony’s

Troop 24 will be holding a Family Night at Michael Anthony’s restaurant on Sunday, November 6th from 4 to 7 pm. Come and enjoy dinner and an evening out with your family and Troop 24 friends. Before you leave, hand your receipt over to Troop Committee Chair Carrie Staubus, and the restaurant will donate 15% back to Troop 24. You can ask your friends and neighbors to place a take-out or delivery order during this time, and the troop will receive 15% of their order amount. (Please bring the receipt to the next troop meeting). Michael Anthony’s is the same great restaurant that makes the delicious pizza for our 4th of July booth. The restaurant is located at 6434 Ogden Avenue in Berwyn, we will be in their Party Room. Hope to see you there!

Merit Badge Counselor Training

Attention leaders and parents: Troop 24 needs more Merit Badge Counselors! Boy Scouts can earn merit badges in over 100 subjects, and we know many of you have special skills and knowledge in those subjects from your work, education, hobbies or other life experience. We are seeking adults to work exclusively with Troop 24, helping scouts complete partials from camp, running merit badge classes during troop meetings, or consulting with scouts who want to work on merit badges outside of meetings. To make it easy for Troop 24 adults to be certified as merit badge counselors, we have scheduled an accredited BSA instructor to lead a training during the troop meeting time (7pm) on November 17, 2016 in the church Social Hall. Youth Protection Training (YPT) will also be provided (starting approximately 7:45pm) for those becoming merit badge counselors or other adults who need to renew this training. Refreshments will be served! Please let us know if you plan to attend.

Waterfall Glen Outing November 5, 2016

On November 5, Troop 24 will be going to Waterfall Glen for our annual orienteering outing.

This is the only opportunity we have, outside of camp, for scouts to complete their First Class Orienteering Requirements:

It is very important for scouts who need Orienteering to attend this outing.

Scouts also have the option of completing the five mile hike required for Second Class rank.

Scouts who are working on the Cooking Merit Badge have the chance to complete backpacking cooking requirements. This is only for scouts who already started the Merit Badge (at Tesomas). For these scouts, some Cooking Merit Badge prerequisites will be completed at the meetings October 27 and November 3.  Please review the requirements ahead of time and be prepared to discuss them.  You will need to bring your Cooking Merit Badge worksheets, books, paper and pen to the meetings.

On this hike, we will be joined by Webelos 2 Cub Scouts from Pack 24 and Pack 120. Please give a warm welcome to our future Troop 24 members!

We will be leaving Riverside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 5, at 7:30 a.m. and will return by mid-late afternoon.  Those working on the Cooking merit badge should bring their cooking supplies, other scouts should bring a sack lunch. There is no cost to attend. This outing will be taking place outside, so please dress accordingly.  Scouts must travel in their Class A uniforms.  We will also need chaperones/drivers to help with this outing. Please sign up by November 1.
