Pancake Breakfast Tickets

At the troop meeting this Thursday, January 30, we will be distributing pancake breakfast ticket packets to each scout. Parents should be sure to ask their scout for their packet when they arrive home so that they do not get misplaced. Each packet contains 15 tickets. Each registered scout is required to sell all 15 tickets and to return the $75 to Sue Jones, the Troop 24 Pancake Breakfast Chairman, by Thursday, February 20. The payment may be made in cash, checks, or a combination. All checks need to be made out to “Boy Scout Troop 24.” Contact Sue Jones if you have questions.

Pancake Breakfast Schedule

Each scout will be required to work a shift at the pancake breakfast, which is on Saturday, March 1, or at the set-up night on Thursday, February 27 (if the scout has an unavoidable important conflict for Saturday). If your scout has a conflict for a particular time on Saturday, please email Sue Jones at sue_jones@designpac.com with the details and we will do our best to schedule around it. Thank you all for your support of our main troop fundraiser. The pancake breakfast funds are used for all troop equipment purchases and other general troop expenses throughout the year.

Scout Sunday February 2

Riverside Presbyterian Church, our charter organization since 1939, invites you to attend RPC on Scout Sunday, February 2. RPC’s service begins at 10:00 a.m. with Coffee Fellowship to follow in the Social Hall.

The Boy Scouts of America annually celebrates its founding on February 8, 1910, based on the program started by Lord Baden Powell in England in 1907. Scout Sunday was added to the Scout celebration in the mid-1940s. Scout Sunday is always the Sunday preceding February 8. The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in houses of worship aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out their “Duty to God” pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a “Scout is Reverent” and the Scouts of all ages promise to do their “Duty to God”.

Any Scouts who would like to serve as ushers for the RPC service and have not already volunteered can contact Carrie Staubus.  Scout families who would like to provide treats for the coffee hour after the service are invited to drop them off in the Social Hall kitchen of the church any time between 9:00 and 10:45 am. Thanks for your contributions & hope to see you there!

If you can’t join us at RPC, wear your uniform proudly to whatever church you attend to show the community what we mean when we say “a scout is reverent.”

Klondike Derby – Time is Running Out

We need six scouts to be able to participate in the Klondike Derby on February 1. Only two have signed up. If you are interested, don’t delay! The deadline is TOMORROW, January 23.

Klondike Derby February 1, 2014

The Des Plaines Valley Council’s annual Klondike Derby will be held at Camp Greene Wood in Woodridge (3125 S. 71st Street.) The Klondike Derby includes a sled race, winter games, etc. Scouts will meet at RPC at 7:15 a.m. and return the same day by about 2:00 p.m.

The cost is $10 and a can of non-cream soup (to be dumped into a communal pot for “garbage can soup”).

We will be looking for drivers. Since this outing is close, drivers do not need to stay. If you can drive, please indicate the appropriate information with your son’s registration. Adults are welcome to stay and participate. If you would like to participate, please register yourself separately from your son.

The registration deadline is January 23. We need a minimum of 6 scouts to participate.
