Merit Badge Opportunities

The Forest Preserves of Cook County and our Scout Council are offering a merit badge program at the Little Red Schoolhouse in Willow Springs this fall. Scouts can earn Environmental Science, Soil and Water Conservation and Citizenship in the World merit badges. See the World Conservation Award Program Flyer for more information.
One adult from our troop must attend if any of our scouts participate. Let us know if you plan to attend – you can email committeechair@troop24riverside.com. Be aware that some dates conflict with planned Troop 24 campouts – you may need to make your own arrangements to leave a campout early.

Dates have been announced for several future Merit Badge Academies:
Winter Break Merit Badge Bash will take place December 27 and 28 at St. Francis Xavier Church in LaGrange.
The Pathway to Adventure Merit Badge College will take place at Morton College on January 13, 2024.
A Robotics Merit Badge Clinic will take place at Triton College on January 27, 2024.
The Three Fires Council Merit Badge Univesity will take place February 24, 2024.
Links to registration will be posted when available.

The St. Louis Council offers a Virtual Trail to Eagle Program for Scouts First Class and above. Merit Badge classes for Eagle required merit badges are offered and scouts can earn up to three badges in three days if all prerequisites have been completed.

Troop 24 Calendar

We hope you are having a good transition back into the school year. Troop meetings will restart on Thursday, September 7th at 7pm at the Riverside Presbyterian Church gym. Starting on that day, we will meet every Thursday at 7pm except for announced days-off for holidays and to coincide with school breaks. New members are always welcome, so if you have a friend who would enjoy scouting, please invite them.

The Troop Committee will restart their monthly planning meetings in September. This is a committee of parents and leaders who help plan the campouts, service projects, fundraisers and other activities for the troop. The first meeting is Tuesday, September 5th at 7pm at Riverside Presbyterian Church in the church “parlor room” (upstairs). We will meet every first Tuesday during the school year. New members are needed for this planning committee!

We are planning lots of great events for this year. Our next campout will be to Chain O’Lakes State Park on September 8-10. Dont’t forget to sign up HERE if you plan to attend. We need leaders and drivers to sign up too! You can see who has already registered on our Upcoming Events page. You can check the dates of our future events on our Troop Calendar which has been recently updated and will have more events added soon.
