Eagle Cave January 20-22, 2017

Our January event will be an outing to Eagle Cave in Blue River, Wisconsin. Scouts will be exploring and sleeping in an onyx cave. In addition to their regular gear (sleeping bag, sleep pad, clothes) scouts should bring two ground clothes or tarps to keep them dry while sleeping. Scouts are asked to travel in their Class A uniforms and should bring money to stop for dinner.

We will leave on Friday, January 20, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. (The time will be determined once drivers are established.) Scouts will return to RPC on Sunday, January 22, around 1:00 p.m.

The cost for this outing is $90.

We will need approximately 4-5 leaders to drive and attend. Due to the distance, we assume those adults will also be staying. There is no cost for the adult leaders.

There are a limited number of tickets for this outing; therefore, the first scouts to register AND pay for this outing will be able to attend.  In order to secure our reservation, the Troop purchased tickets for this outing that are non-refundable; therefore, we will institute a cancellation policy for this particular outing:  if you must cancel two weeks prior to the outing (January 6) 1/2 of your payment can be refunded; under two weeks we are not able to refund your payment.

Contact Dawn Gmitro at dmgmitro@aol.com with questions.

Please fill out a form for each scout AND continue on to WePay. There is a separate registration for adults.

Eagle Cave Payments Due FRIDAY

Due to overwhelming response, we are overbooked for the Eagle Cave outing next weekend, and we are unable to secure more tickets. If you have registered for Eagle Cave but have not paid for your ticket(s), please do so no later than FRIDAY, January 7. If we do not receive payment we will assume that your scout will not be going. You can either use WePay or drop off a check to Dawn Gmitro.

If your scout has a conflict, or has changed his mind and does not want to go, please let Dawn know (dmgmitro@aol.com) ASAP, so we can assign the space to another scout. If we have no cancellations we will have to eliminate those who registered last (within the last few days) and issue refunds.

Eagle Cave Permission Slip

The Eagle Cave outing, held every 2 years, is one of the scouts’ favorite events. This year, we leave RPC at 5:30 p.m. on January 15 and return by noon on January 17. For more information about the cave, visit www.eaglecave.net. To see photos from previous years, visit our online photo gallery. If you need additional information, please contact Lisa Buffo. We have room for 45, so please turn in your permission slip, with payment of $55, at the meeting on Friday. (Reminder: Scouts who have popcorn credit can use it for outings, or save it for summer camp. Contact Nancy Hopkins if you don’t know how much credit you have.)

Eagle Cave January 15-17

Save the date for Eagle Cave! We will leave RPC on Friday, January 15, at 5:00 p.m. (tentatively, may need two waves so some parents/kids can make it later). We’ll return by about 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17. We’re looking for adults to drive and CAMP OUT IN THE CAVE! This is probably the troop’s most popular outing.

Eagle Cave is located about 1/2 hour west of Madison, Wisconsin. You can find more information here: http://www.eaglecave.net/ and directions here: http://www.eaglecave.net/directions.htm#From%20Chicago

The cave is a constant 52 degrees and lots of fun to explore! Permission slips will be posted soon.

Camp Mach Reduced Price Deadline April 30

April 30 is the last day new scouts can sign up for Camp Mach at the reduced price of $235.  The regular price is $260.  All registrations are due no later than May 28.  Permission slips, with checks made out to Troop 24, can be turned in at the Troop Meeting.

New Photos in Gallery

There are new photos in the Troop Photo Gallery from the recent Eagle Cave trip, as well as the November orienteering outing. Also now in the gallery are photos from the 2006 Eagle Cave trip previously posted as a Powerpoint presentation. Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures. If any scouts or parents have photos you would like added to the Gallery, please send them to Nancy Hopkins.
