Survival Fall Camporee – Sept. 20-22, 2013 SCOUT Form

Scuba Outing for PADI-certified Scouts

We have a Scuba opportunity for all our newly certified scouts, or for anyone who is a PADI-certified diver. Put your new knowledge to use on Sunday, September 15, at the Haigh Quarry near Kankakee. We will be attending with DJ’s Scuba (Brookfield), who will provide the equipment, admission to the quarry, and a light lunch for the scouts. We will leave RPC at 11:00 on Sunday, September 15, dive at about 1:00, and return by late afternoon. DJ’s will provide all the equipment except mask & snorkel (you will need to provide your own, and they have a 15% discount on purchases for scouts). If you have your own fins, great; otherwise, fin rental would be an additional $5. The cost will be $65 (no fins) or $70 (with fins). Adult scout leaders are also welcome and can take advantage of the scout pricing. All participants must have their PADI cards with them. (If scouts certified at Tesomas by Klein Scuba have not received their cards, please contact Klein at 705-675-6722 or kleinscuba@aol.com) Everyone participating will need to be fitted at DJ’s for equipment prior to the outing. We will arrange a time when we know who is attending.

Scuba at Haigh Quarry – September 15, 2013 FORM

Den Chief Training

The Des Plaines Valley Council is offering training for Den Chiefs on September 14. A den chief is basically an assistant to a den leader for a Cub Scout den. This position would qualify as a “position of responsibility” to meet the rank advancement for Star, Life & Eagle. This is a great job for a scout with a younger brother in Cub Scouts, but can work for any scout who is willing to commit to attending the den meetings for a particular den (usually once per month). Interested scouts can sign up for the training, and should also contact Scoutmaster Hartwig or Asst. Scoutmaster Rogers about being assigned to this position as a troop job. More information about the training is available here: http://www.bsa-dpvc.org/Training/TD/DenChief.php

Scout Cabin Kick-Off September 6

UPDATE: Scouts should be sure to bring their books to the scout cabin so we can update our computer records and get those eligible ready for Boards of Review. Also, each scout should bring a weiner roast stick to roast hot dogs.

The first Troop meeting of the year will be at the Scout Cabin on Friday, September 6. Scouts should be dropped off at the Scout Cabin at 7:00 p.m. and picked up on Saturday morning by 9:00 a.m. (scouts can call for pick-up). Scouts should come prepared to sleep in tents for the night. A light breakfast will be served on Saturday morning. There is NO COST for this outing, but we need to know how many to plan for, so we’re asking that you sign up in advance at http://troop24riverside.com/2013/08/scout-cabin-campout-form-september-6-2013/
