Troop 24 Calendar

We hope you are having a good transition back into the school year. Troop meetings will restart on Thursday, September 7th at 7pm at the Riverside Presbyterian Church gym. Starting on that day, we will meet every Thursday at 7pm except for announced days-off for holidays and to coincide with school breaks. New members are always welcome, so if you have a friend who would enjoy scouting, please invite them.

The Troop Committee will restart their monthly planning meetings in September. This is a committee of parents and leaders who help plan the campouts, service projects, fundraisers and other activities for the troop. The first meeting is Tuesday, September 5th at 7pm at Riverside Presbyterian Church in the church “parlor room” (upstairs). We will meet every first Tuesday during the school year. New members are needed for this planning committee!

We are planning lots of great events for this year. Our next campout will be to Chain O’Lakes State Park on September 8-10. Dont’t forget to sign up HERE if you plan to attend. We need leaders and drivers to sign up too! You can see who has already registered on our Upcoming Events page. You can check the dates of our future events on our Troop Calendar which has been recently updated and will have more events added soon.

This week is Troop Election Thursday!

BE ON TIME! The Zoom meeting will begin at 7:00. Wear your Class A uniform.

Part I: Order of the Arrow nominations
• Danny Kalish & John Svoboda from Takhone Lodge will provide an overview of Scouting’s National Honor Society, followed by elections of this year’s Troop 24 candidates.
Part II: Troop Elections
• We will elect a new Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) after hearing all SPL “stump speeches” from your fellow Scouts.
• The new SPL will then appoint a new Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL).
• Finally, you can select a “Troop Job” for the Spring term – especially important for the Star, Life, and Eagle ranks. Troop Jobs include Quartermasters, Instructors, Den Chiefs, Outdoor Ethics Guide, Librarian, Historian, Webmaster, Chartered Organization Aide, Scribe, and Bugler. We invite those of you who like coaching other Scouts to consider the Instructor and Den Chief positions.
If you attend meetings regularly and would like to serve as a Patrol Leader, send an email to Mr. Flassing [flassing@yahoo.com] or Mr. Lauger [tim@lauger.com] – we’ll likely organize the Patrols around interested PLs this term.

FEBRUARY 18TH TROOP MEETING – BACK TO THE 7:00 START TIME!

Be sure to join us as we close the Fall term with a “Kahoot” computerized trivia game. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place!

Questions may range from “What is the “D” in the EDGE Method” to “The greatest number of bikes ever hauled by Mr. Hartwig to Camp Tesomas is …”

More technical / Zoom set-up details to follow tomorrow; join us for the fun!

=====================

A quick edited overview of “Kahoot” from Wikipedia:

Kahoot! was designed in Norway for social learning, with learners gathered around a common screen such as an interactive whiteboard, projector, or a computer monitor. The gameplay is simple; all players connect using a generated game PIN shown on the
common screen, and use a device to answer questions created by [the Scout Leaders or Scouts]. These questions can be changed to award points, which are calculated on up to how much can the player get and how long it takes the player to answer. The sooner the player answers, the more points they get if the player answers correctly. Points then show up on the leaderboard after each question. The player can also get a streak, meaning they answered more questions in sequence. The better their streak is, the more points they get when answering a question correctly.

See you at 7:00!
