Scouts are invited to sign up to help with Riverside’s annual “Riverside Springs Ahead” spring clean-up of the downtown business district on Saturday, April 7. Volunteers will meet at 8:00 in the parking lot next to Riverside Bank. The clean-up goes from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Tools will be provided, as well as water & snacks. To have an idea of how many volunteers to expect, we’re asking scouts to sign up here: http://troop24riverside.com/2012/03/riverside-springs-ahead-form/

Service Hours March 31

Scouts who would like to earn service hours are invited to participate in St. Adelbert’s spring clean-up on March 31 (noon to about 3:00 p.m.). Summer Camp! Tesomas July 15-21, 2012

This year Troop 24’s annual summer camp will be at Camp Tesomas, north of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Although it’s a bit farther north than Camp Mach, the travel time is approximately the same (about 6 hours). The dates are July 15-21. A coach bus will leave from Hauser’s parking lot about 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 15, and will return mid-day on Saturday, July 21. More information about the camp is available here: http://www.tesomas.com/.

Last year we had all but 3 scouts attend one of our two summer camp options, and we hope for the same great turnout this year. Older scouts who have earned most of their merit badges may want to consider a high adventure option at the Hanna Adventure Base (more info at http://clsr.samoset.org/hanna/) or Micro Treks (more info at http://clsr.samoset.org/hanna/microtrek.php). We’ll provide more information about signing up for merit badges or high adventure options within the next couple of weeks.

No matter which camp program your scout chooses, it will be a great experience. The facilities at Camp Tesomas are excellent. Several of our leaders visited Tesomas last summer and would be pleased to answer questions about Tesomas. General questions about camp can be directed to our Summer Camp Coordinator, Liz Gomorczak at jlgomo@sbcglobal.net

We encourage scout families who may be experiencing financial difficulties to apply for a “campership.” Applications must be submitted by April 1. The application can be found here: http://clsr.samoset.org/resources/CampershipApplication.pdf. Please contact Nancy Hopkins about unit contributions to the campership.

The cost for camp is $290. If your scout sold popcorn, you should pay by check. You will receive an e-mail telling you how much is due. If your scout did not sell popcorn (and this includes all new scouts, whose popcorn money went to the Pack), you can pay the entire fee online. If it will be hardship to pay everything at once, we’ll have an option on WePay to pay a $75 deposit (which we have to pay to the Samoset Council by April 1), with the remainder due by May 15.

Please make it easy for us–don’t wait until the last minute to register! You can register here: http://troop24riverside.com/2012/03/camp-tesomas-form/ Registration is due by April 1.

Snow Sports Merit Badge

Scouts who are working on the Snow Sports Merit Badge are invited to come to RPC at 6:30 p.m. tonight, March 8, before the Troop meeting.

Troop Committee Meeting March 6

Reminder: The Troop Committee will meet on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. We will be meeting in the Social Hall rather than the Westminster Room. Scout parents are always welcome to attend.

Cantigny Campouts in March

The Troop will have TWO separate campouts at Cantigny in Wheaton during the weekend of March 16-17.

On Saturday night, March 17, there will be a campout especially for our new “Joiner” scouts. They will work on some of the skills and requirements needed for advancement

On Friday night, March 16, we invite older scouts to camp. This is particularly encouraged for those scouts who might be missing just a few requirements for advancement to their next rank–and particularly those requirements that can only be completed on a campout (acting as Patrol cook, starting a fire, setting up a stove, etc.).

Please be sure you sign up for the appropriate outing:

FRIDAY – Older scouts $10
SATURDAY – New scouts $20

If you already signed up online but couldn’t pay on WePay because we didn’t yet have the ticket available, please visit WePay at:
