River Clean Up 10/20/18 Scout FORM

Volunteers Needed for Flag Retirement 9/29/18

Pack 24 Cub Scouts have requested that our Boy Scout Troop hold a flag retirement ceremony at their Scout Cabin Campout on Saturday, September 29th. Boy Scouts and troop leaders are needed to demonstrate and lead the ceremony to properly and respectfully retire worn American flags. Scouts may receive credit for requirement 9 of the Communications Merit Badge by participating in this campfire ceremony. Volunteers should arrive at 5 pm and plan to stay for several hours (sorry, no troop camping allowed). Sample scripts and rehearsal time will be available. Volunteers will be provided with pizza and salad dinner and s’mores dessert.

Let’s start with “Ignite” on Thursday [at the Scout Cabin].

Download/print the Fire Safety Merit Badge workbook!

Bring your scout handbook, your favorite tinder [dryer lint, packing paper, newspaper], and a box of matches.

We’ll explore fire-building techniques, perhaps continue the Fire Safety Merit Badge, begin the Firem’n Chit, and have a fun outdoor game.

Our new Scoutmaster, Tim Lauger, has been busy preparing Troop 24 for a great 2018-2019 season! Troop 24 has a lot going on so please read on for updates on this week’s meeting, upcoming camp outs, Order of the Arrow and more.

 

***This Thursday’s (9/20) Scout Meeting will be held at SCOUT CABIN!***

Drop off and pick up at Scout cabin instead of RPC this Thursday!

The Scout Cabin is about half a mile from RPC and the address is 417 Fairbank Rd, Riverside, IL 60546.

***Upcoming Campouts***

—Camp Inferno is THIS WEEKEND! All Camp Inferno families will receive an email with detail later this week.

—Troop 24 will be heading to Princeton, IL to campout at the Shadows of Blue & Grey Civil War Festival, October 12-14. Scouts will get to watch reenactments, This is a much loved campout where Scouts get to see Civil War battle re-enactments, storytelling, music, dance and more. Registration will open next week.

It keeps us warm, heats our food, and yes – an evening campfire can be magical, too.

We’ll explore the Fire Safety merit badge, the Firem’n Chit, and general fire-building and fire safety principles.
