Congratulations to Troop 24’s newest Eagle Scout, Karl Jantze!
Our Troop has been in existence since 1917. During that time at least 72 of our scouts have become Eagle scouts. (Our records–and those at the Council–may not be complete, but we know there have been at least 72.) We would be interested in learning what our former scouts are doing, and to that end, we have an update about Eagle Scout Matt Kasl, 2004.
Matt is currently a 1st Lieutenant and Platoon Leader in the U.S. Marine Corp for a Light Armored Reconnaissance unit operating out of Khan Neshin in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. He has been there since October and his first deployment will end in May. His address is:
1st Lt Matthew Kasl
1st LAR BN D Co.
Unit 41242
FPO AP 96427-1242
We’re proud of our Eagle Scouts!
Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scouts: Ben C, Brian R, Nick R, Cody V. From the classes of 2010 and 2011, 24 boys became 5th grade boy scouts. Twelve of those went on to become Eagle Scouts. For the years for which we have statistics (back to 2002), our cumulative total shows that 46% of our scouts have attained the Eagle rank. Our records are likely not complete, but we know that we have had at least 72 Eagle Scouts from Troop 24, since the time the Troop was formed in 1917. The highest number of Eagle scouts (6 each year) were in 1931, 1932, and 2010. Pictured above are all our Eagle Scouts since 2009, with the exception of Austin M, who was not present for the picture. For a list of our Eagle scouts, see http://troop24riverside.com/our-eagle-scouts/.
We need about a dozen scouts to participate in the Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday, November 26. Please contact Asst. Scoutmaster Ringbloom to let him know if you are available. Scouts need to dress in uniform (sashes & neckerchiefs included, no jeans) and should be at the Township Hall at 1:15. ALL scouts are encouraged to attend, even if not one of the official participants.
All scouts of Troop 24 and their families are cordially invited to an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Ben Cox, Brian Robertson, Nick Rohm, and Cody Vitek on Saturday, November 26. It will be held in the Riverside Township Hall at 27 Riverside Drive in Riverside. The ceremony will start at 2:00 with a reception at 3:00. Please R.S.V.P. to Pat Rohm at darohms@att.net.
There were 10 Eagle Scouts in the senior class of 2011. Those scouts crossed over into the Troop in 2004, with 6 other scouts, for a class of 16. 63% of them became Eagle Scouts: Ben Cox, Sam Cox, Elliot Louthen, Austin McKain, Ben Mitchell, Dennis Potamianos, Brian Robertson, Fitz Robling, Nick Rohm, and Cody Vitek. Troop 24’s cumulative Eagle Scout rate (number of scouts attaining Eagle, divided by the number who started in that class as Boy Scouts) is currently 41% (records for 4 years).
Nationally, the most commonly reported statistic is 4%. This number is calculated differently, by taking the total number of scouts attaining Eagle during the year, divided by the total number of registered boy scouts for that year.
We know that at least 72 scouts from Troop 24 have become Eagle Scouts; however, we likely do not have a complete list. Our Eagle Scouts are listed at: http://troop24riverside.com/our-eagle-scouts/

Ben’s Eagle Project involves rebuilding benches in Riverside. On Thursday, May 19, we will prepare the iron frames for painting, then use Rustoleum spray paint to paint them. On Friday, May 20, we will install new wood and new hardware, to finish all work in time for the Arts Festival this weekend. We will meet at the Riverside Post Office, on Burlington Street, at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, and at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. (RB students are released at 1:30 Friday, because of the Prom that night.)
