Annual Dues Due

Every year the Troop is “rechartered” with the BSA, which requires us to submit a list of all our scouts, with payment. For several years our annual dues have been $30, and there will be no change this year. To make it easy, we are asking all parents to pay for their scouts via WePay. (Scouts who joined the Troop after school started have already paid; no additional payment is needed.)

Please go to: https://www.wepay.com/events/scout-dues-2012-2013-school-year. We would appreciate payment by November 8. If your son is not continuing in scouting this year, please let us know by sending an e-mail to Nancy Hopkins at nmhopkins1@comcast.net.

Return Tents PLEASE

Several tents, which were sent home with scouts for drying (after Tesomas & after the Scout Cabin camp-out) have not yet been returned. We will need all our tents for the Camp Inferno outing on September 28-30. If you still have a tent, please return it at the meeting on Thursday.

Parents: Check your Scout’s Shirt

A uniform shirt was left at the scout cabin (Adult S, no rank badge, Arrow of Light badge pinned on). Another scout is missing a shirt, but a different size. We suspect that a scout (probably a 6th grader) took the wrong shirt home. Please, if your scout attended the meeting last Friday, check his shirt to be sure he has the correct one.

Parents: Please label scout clothing and equipment. We had a couple of boys whose shoes went home on the wrong feet last year (and one pair was never returned). The uniforms all look the same. The only way to tell them apart is by labeling them.

Please contact Nancy Hopkins at nmhopkins1@comcast.net if you find that your scout has the wrong shirt.

Scout Shirt left at Cabin

One of our scouts left a uniform shirt at the Scout Cabin: Adult Small, no rank insignia, Arrow of Light badge safety-pinned to the front. There is a red neckerchief (black trim) with the uniform. This is likely a shirt belonging to a 6th grade scout. If this is your shirt, please contact Nancy Hopkins at nmhopkins1@comcast.net.

Scout Father in Hospice Care

Tim Lanners, scout Killian’s father, is now in hospice care. Some of you may not know Tim, as he has been battling cancer since about the time Killian crossed over. Families from Pack 120 will remember Tim’s tremendous help with the Pack. Scout families are invited to visit Tim’s CarePage to offer support to him and his family. You will need to create a login before you can see Tim’s page. The link is: http://www.carepages.com/carepages/TimNews

Shoes Missing

Parents: Please check your son’s shoes and see if he may have worn the wrong shoes home from the Troop meeting last night. Missing are black & white Nike shoes with a little red trim, in about a size 8. It’s possible that multiple pairs of shoes are on the wrong feet, of course, but the shoes that were left were Avila brand.

Please contact dawneensuriano@sbcglobal.net to switch shoes. If we find a multiple switch is necessary, e-mail Nancy and we’ll post another notice.

Update from the Jurack Family

Scouts & families from Pack 24 may remember the Jurack family, and especially Cub Scout Joshua Jurack. The Jurack family moved to Virginia while Joshua was still a Cub Scout. Joshua was the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Goodwill Ambassador for Virginia in 2011.

2011 Journey to Excellence Award

The Journey to Excellence program is “designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units, districts, and councils. It is replacing the Centennial Quality Awards Program as a means of encouraging excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA.” There are three levels of the award: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

Being designated a Journey to Excellence unit entitles all our scouts and leaders to wear a 2011 Journey to Excellence patch on their uniforms. The patch can be purchased, if you choose to do so, at the Scout Store in LaGrange. Please be sure to get the patch that also says 100% Boys Life, as we are a 100% unit.
