The track provides an Olympic thrill with the safety of the participant in mind. Top speeds of approximately 30 mph are possible from the public start area located about 3/4 of the way up the track.  The 850’ track was designed by three-time Olympian Frank Masley and consists of six curves and two starting areas. Coaches are on hand to teach and assist both beginners and those who have slid before.  Scouts will have a 2.5 hour session, which will include a lesson/coaching.

Check out the very cool video at this url: http://www.msports.org/luge

Can You Loan a Backpack Stove?

At the Waterfall Glen outing on November 7, we will need a number of light-weight backpacking stoves. Do you have one we could borrow? If so, please let Nancy know (nmhopkins1@comcast.net). Thanks!

Waterfall Glen Orienteering November 7, 2015

On November 7, Troop 24 will be going to Waterfall Glen for our annual orienteering outing.

This is the only opportunity we have, outside of camp, for scouts to complete First Class Requirement 2: Using a map and compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile, and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, canyon, ditch, etc.)

Scouts will also be able to finish First Class Requirement 1: Demonstrate how to find directions during the day and at night without using a compass; and Second Class Requirement 1b: Using a compass and a map together, take a five-mile hike (or 10 miles by bike) approved by your adult leader and your parent or guardian.

It is very important for scouts who need Orienteering (F2) to attend this outing.

Scouts who are working on the Cooking Merit Badge may also have the chance to complete MB Requirement 7. This is only for scouts who already started the MB (at Tesomas). Requirements 7(a) and 7(b) will be completed at the meeting this Thursday, October 29.  Please review the requirements ahead of time and be prepared to discuss them.  You will also need to bring your Cooking MB worksheets, books, paper and pen to the meeting.

We will be leaving RPC on Saturday, November 7, at approximately 8:00 a.m. and will return by mid-late afternoon.  This outing will be taking place outside, so please dress accordingly.  Scouts must travel in their Class A uniforms.  We will also need chaperones/drivers to help with this outing.
