High Adventure 2013

Mark your calendars for an informational meeting (parents & scouts) to discuss our High Adventure options for the summer of 2013. We were successful in getting a reservation for a Philmont trek for the summer of 2013 (departing July 5 and returning on July 19). Scouts must be 14 years old or age 13 and have graduated from 8th grade to participate in a Philmont experience (our current 7th graders and older). There is also a possibility for a scuba experience at Florida Seabase. Those who are interested in either outing should attend an informational meeting on Monday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Social Hall at RPC.

Seabase Photos Needed

Any scouts or parents who have photos from Seabase: please send pictures to Nancy Hopkins, if you are willing to share them on the Troop website.

Seabase: 2 spots available

From June 26 through July 4 many of our older scouts will be participating in a sailing program at the BSA Seabase in the Florida Keys. Due to cancellations, we have two slots open for this trip. The cost per person (scout or adult leader/parent) is approximately $1,400, which includes Seabase accommodations aboard 41-foot sailboats, air fare, ground transportation, sightseeing, hotels, etc. To attend, a scout MUST BE 14 YEARS OLD BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2010. This is a National BSA policy and there are no exceptions. For more information, please contact Jim Ringbloom.

Seabase Scouts – Sailing Lessons Available

Burnham Harbor Yacht Club offers 1-week sailing lessons, 9:30-3:30 M-Fri, at a cost of $250.  A couple of our scouts have signed up for lessons the week of June 29, and there may be openings in other weeks as well.  For more information, visit the Burnham Harbor Yacht Club website.
