Eagle Project Help Needed September 12

All scouts and adults are invited to help with Will F’s Eagle Project this Saturday, September 12 at the Riverside Scout Cabin. The work will consist of scraping and sanding. The workday will start at 8:00 a.m. and conclude about 3:00 p.m. Any time you are willing to help will be greatly appreciated–just come to the Scout Cabin and stay as long as you are able. Questions? Honor Flight September 30, 2015

Honor Flight Chicago will escort approximately 90 World War II Veterans on Wednesday, September 30, to Washington, DC in one of a series of Honor Flights dedicated to honoring WWII Veterans living in the Chicago area. This is the last flight of the 2015 season.

The day’s adventure concludes back in Chicago with a Welcome Home Celebration where family, friends, associates, and even strangers assemble at Midway Airport’s Baggage Claim 1. Awaiting the plane’s arrival from Dulles Airport, they are joined by color guards, bagpipers, Scouts, motorcycle clubs, a brass band, and countless volunteers and active duty military personnel.

Troop 24 scouts are invited to participate. Please meet at Midway Airport’s Baggage Claim 1 at least one hour prior to the flight‘s 8:10 p.m. arrival. More information is available at:

Eagle Project Help Needed Labor Day Weekend

Will F. is requesting help with his Eagle Scout Project at the Riverside Scout Cabin, on Saturday, September 5, and Monday, September 7.

On Saturday, the work will involve:

  • clearing trees and brush around the building
  • clearing the ground around the cabin leaving a visible work surface
  • removing plastic mesh from the sides of the cabin
  • clearing leaves and debris from the gutters

Shifts will be…
– 8:00am to 10:00am
– 10:00am to 12:00pm
– 12:00pm to 2:00pm (if needed)

Workers will need, and we would appreciate you bringing:
– yard work gloves (gloves will be supplied if necessary)
– bug spray
– clippers (larger and small)
– rakes (for raking leaves and sticks)
– trowels (for digging out weeds)
– spade shovels (for digging out larger plants)

On Monday the work will involve:

  • cleaning the exterior of the cabin (preparing it to be painted)
  • scraping and removing loose paint
  • sanding off mold
  • repairing chinking

Shifts will be…
– 8:00am to 10:00am
– 10:00am to 12:00pm
– 12:00pm to 2:00pm
– 2:00pm to 4:00pm (if needed)

Workers will need…
– yard work gloves (gloves will be supplied if necessary)
– bug spray

Eagle Project – Will Gmitro School Supply Sort – Sun. April 26

Thank you to all Scout families who donated items for the Refugee School Supply Drive.

This Sunday, April 26th,  Will needs Scouts and Adults to unload, organize and sort the supplies to prepare for delivery to Catholic Charities. You may sign up here.

We will meet at the Riverside Presbyterian Social Hall from 3 to 6 p.m., where we will sort through the supplies and prepare backpacks, we will also create a shopping list of still needed supplies in order for Will to purchase with the monetary donations he received.

If you can spare an hour or two for service, please sign up.

Help Needed for Eagle Project: April 11 & 18

Chris O is requesting scout and adult assistance for his book drive. In addition to assistance in working, book donations are appreciated – anything except magazines and textbooks.

On April 11 and April 18, we need 2 adults and 3 scouts each hour from 9:00 through 12 noon. These volunteers will be working at the North Riverside Village Commons at the collection site.

On the evening of April 18, volunteers will be sorting the books collected at Chris’ home. Two adults and four scouts are needed from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pizza will be served.

Service hours will be given for your assistance!

Eagle Scout Project March 25

Eagle Scout Candidate Christopher O is requesting assistance from a few scouts on Wednesday, March 25, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., to make posters for his book drive. Scouts will be working at Christopher’s house. In addition, he is asking for scouts to speak to their religious leaders at their churches to advertise the book drive by way of posters and/or a spoken announcement. School Supplies Needed for an Eagle Project

Troop 24 Eagle Scout Candidate, Will Gmitro, needs your help collecting school supplies to benefit refugee children of the Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program. You may donate individual items or all the items to fill a grade-level backpack.

You can bring your items to Troop Meetings or to the collection bin at the Riverside Presbyterian lobby through April 6. Click here for supply list.

Help Needed for Pinewood Derby January 24, 2015

Pack 24 is requesting assistance from Troop 24 boy scouts to help run the annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday, January 24, in the RPC gym. (This is the same weekend as Eagle Cave: You cannot do both!) There will be four 45-minute shifts beginning at noon, with 3 scouts needed for each shift. The last shift may go for an hour, depending on the timing of the race. You can sign up for more than one shift, but you must sign up for each shift separately:

12:00 – 12:45
12:45 – 1:30
1:30 – 2:15
2:15 – 3:00
3:00 – 3:45

All boy scouts who help will receive a free lunch or snacks, which will be served by the girl scouts of Troop 657 in the Social Hall. You will also receive service hours.

Please report for your shift 5 minutes BEFORE your scheduled start time. See Mr. Jerz for instructions when you arrive.

Art Supplies Needed for Eagle Project

As his Eagle Project, Cody L is collecting art supplies for the Constance Morris House, a local domestic abuse center for women and children. All scouts are asked to bring art supplies to the Troop meeting this Thursday, January 8. Some of the items needed are crayons, markers, construction paper, craft paints (including fabric paint), etc. Thanks for your help!
