Eagle Project Assistance

Michael Gmitro is looking for High School aged Scouts to help with the second part of his Eagle Project.  A few adults are also needed.  This portion of the project involves installing the wood duck boxes on trees along the Des Plaines River near Indian Gardens.  The date is Sunday, December 30, from 9:00 until complete (with an anticipated completion time of noon).  Meet at Indian Gardens baseball field.  An additional 12 ft or 20 ft extension ladder and cordless drills are also needed.  If you have these tools that we can use or can help with the installation,  please contact Mike at  mxgmitro@comcast.net

Scouts Needed for Holiday Stroll

We need more scouts to work the “s’mores” station at Riverside Garage tonight. We have four 1-hour shifts: 5:00-6:00 pm; 6:00-7:00 pm; 7:00-8:00 pm, and 8:00-9:00 pm. At this point we have NO SCOUTS SIGNED UP for the 6-7, 7-8 and 8-9 shifts. We are giving out ingredients for s’mores and will have two fire pits going all evening. We are not charging for the s’mores, but collecting a free-will offering to be given to the Riverside Food Pantry. If you are available to work, please contact Ray Rogers at rogersr2@ameritech.net.

Events on November 10

Troop 24 has two events planned for November 10. The first is an orienteering outing to Waterfall Glen. This is the annual opportunity we offer to complete First Class requirement 1b. According to our records, there are 26 scouts who need this requirement. All first-year scouts are strongly encouraged to attend this outing.

The second event is the first stage of Michael G’s Eagle Project, which is to build and install wood duck houses along the river. On November 10, scouts will be building the nesting houses. Power tools will be involved. Service hours will be given for this project.

Sign-up is required for both events, which are further described below.

Eagle Scout Project

Service Opportunity – November 3, Noon-4 pm

Riverside Springs Ahead is looking for scouts who are interested in helping with a clean-up project cutting/preparing the flower beds for winter in the downtown area.

Scouts interested in helping out should meet up with other volunteers at Riverside Bank on Saturday, November 3, from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Scouts can receive service hours for this work. Please take a Service Hour Form with you and have an adult in charge sign it indicating how many hours you worked.

No sign-up is required, come and help out for however long you can.

Canned Food Drive

The scouts have been asked for their annual help with RPC’s canned food drive. Scouts are invited to bring canned food of any kind to the meeting this week (Friday at the Scout Cabin), or next week (Thursday at RPC). Alternatively, please drop off any contributions at RPC in the collection box in the hallway near the office (which will save us from transporting them from the Scout Cabin, or downstairs!) Contributions go to food pantries in the area.

Service Opportunity for Scouts and Family October 18 – Feed our Community Day

Troop 24 and Families,
We will be volunteering to package food with the Riverside/North Riverside Covenant of Churches, partnered with Outreach,  for Feed Our Community Day.

As a Troop we will be helping at the 11:00 AM shift.   Volunteers will be organized into small group assembly lines, preparing delicious, nutritious meals of pasta and cheese – all fortified with soy protein, nutrients, and vitamins – and bagged, labeled, weighed, and boxed.  Meals will be distributed to local food pantries.

If a Scout and/or anyone in his family (must be >7 years of age) are interested in participating with Troop 24, please sign up below.

Scouts, who check in/out with Mrs. Lynch during the shift will get service hours for their time.

Scouts and family members that are volunteering should report to North Riverside Village Commons on Saturday Oct. 18 at 10:45 AM.  The shift will be approximately 1.5 hours.

Scouts and family can all sign up on one form here.  Registration deadline is Thurs Oct. 16.

If you are interested in more information on Outreach or if you are interested in volunteering for a different shift or if you would simply like to donate to this program you can follow this link http://www.feed6.org/feed-our-community-day-registration.html

Susan Lynch will be the leader at this event.

Memorial Day Ceremony – NEED Scouts

The Troop has been asked to assist with Riverside’s Memorial Day ceremony in Guthrie Park (next to the train station). We need scout and/or adult help at 7:00 a.m. to move chairs for the event from the area between the Library and Town Hall. We then also need Scouts for the ceremony, which starts at 10:00 a.m. We will also be needed to move the chairs back after the ceremony. Scouts can leave and come back if they work more than one job. This is a pre-approved service project. Mr. Hartwig will take attendance and no forms will be needed. Boy scouts may be asked to raise and lower the flag, and some of our scouts need this requirement (2nd Class Requirement 4). Scouts who want to be part of the ceremony must arrive by 9:30 a.m. so that we can practice the color guard.

Sign up for set-up, ceremony, and/or take-down here:
