The spring Court of Honor will be held on May 28 in the RPC Social Hall. The deadline for turning in your blue cards to Mr. Jantze will be May 21.
New scouts are reminded to bring their BSA registration forms to the Troop meeting on Thursday. The forms were handed out last week. If you did not receive one, or if you lost the form, please contact Nancy Hopkins to pick up another form. Forms are also available at the Scout Store in LaGrange.
Each year the Troop has the opportunity to elect scouts to become members of the “Order of the Arrow.” To be eligible a scout must be first class or above, and have participated in 15 or more nights of camping within the past two years, including six days of which must have been at a long-term camp (for example, summer camp at Camp Mach).
The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is fourfold:
To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
To promote Scout camping
To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others
Scouts who have asked to be considered for the Order of the Arrow won’t find out if they were elected until at Camp Mach. If elected, the scout will be inducted through a ceremony in which candidates maintain silence, receive small amounts of food, work on camp improvement projects, and are required to sleep alone, apart from other campers. The entire experience is designed to teach significant values.
The Order of the Arrow is usually attained by older scouts. Any scout elected to Order of the Arrow will not be able to attend the rafting trip at Camp Mach, as they will be involved in other activities. For more information, visit http://www.oa-bsa.org/misc/basics/
We would like all scouts to be aware that there will be Maundy Thursday church service at RPC at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 9. Scouts are requested to be particularly quiet in entering and leaving the building, and to please refrain from any raucous activities outside the building. There may be additional traffic and parking problems, so please allow a little extra time. Thanks for your cooperation.
There will be no Patrol Leaders Council this Thursday prior to the Troop Meeting.
Troop 24’s fall Court of Honor is tonight, October 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Social Hall of the Presbyterian Church.
Our first Troop meeting of the year is Thursday, September 4. Please come in full uniform, with your book. If you have any “lost and found” items from Camp Mach, please bring them to the meeting.
Troop 24 and Pack 24 scouts, in conjunction with the Riverside Presbyterian Church, are conducting a cereal drive for city children who qualify for the free lunch program during the school year. Please try to bring a box of cereal on May 29 (Court of Honor).
First-year scouts should attend the Troop Meeting on Thursday, May 8 at the regular time: 7:00 to 8:15 p.m., and regular place (the gym).
Scouts whose names were listed in Mrs. Gustafson’s e-mail should arrive for Troop Leadership Training at 6:30 p.m.. Pizza will be served and the training should be done by 8:30-9:00 p.m. This meeting will take place in the upstairs “Parlor” of the church.
Scouts who are not in one of these two categories do not need to attend unless they are working to “catch up” with their patrol due to joining at a later date.
