Let’s get Fired Up for Summer Camp!!!!!!!  The first order of business is a complete equipment and tent review to ensure that everything is clean and in working order.  Summer Camp is our biggest Camp Out of the year and we need everything ready to go.

ALL EQUIPMENT AND TENTS MUST BE RETURNED ON THURSDAY!!!!!

We need all hands to make this meeting a smooth, productive, and timely event.  We will need teams to set up tents, break down patrol boxes, clean equipment and and clean and pack the trailer.  Everyone is needed to help out, take pride in your Troop and demonstrate your Scout Spirit!  We will see everyone on Thursday at 6:00pm.

Thursday May 31:  Tenderfoot requirement 6c.  We will complete the Fitness requirement of Tenderfoot this evening so wear your running shoes for the mile run.  You will also be required to turn in your 30 day fitness logs, Requirement 6b.  Final preparations for Kankakee; Boards of Review; and Summer Camp preparation.  Troop guides and instructors are needed to help in this endeavor.

Kankakee Campers are required to attend the clean up meeting on Thursday, June 7 at 7 pm.

Thursday May 24:  Troop 24 “Chopped” Competition.  You planned, created menus, shopped and prepared!  Now it’s time to put forth your best efforts in the Cooking Competition.  Each patrol will have one hour to finish their dishes and present them to the judges.    The Kankakee Campout Leaders and chefs will also be planning the Kankakee menus and grocery lists.

Saturday May 26:  Eagle Court of Honor, 11:00 am RPC

Monday May 28:  Riverside Memorial Day Color Guard.  Troop 24 will once again provide the Color Guard for the Riverside Memorial Day program held at the St. Mary’s Parish Center at 10:00 am.  We are in need of scouts to participate in this solemn event.

We have a very busy Thursday coming up.  Troop 24 announces its Second Annual Cooking Competition.  This year’s competition will take on the aspects of “Chopped”, the FoodNetwork TV show.  Planning for your patrol’s cooking and review of the ingredients will be completed tonight.  The White Pines Campout will also be planned this night so don’t miss out on your opportunity to plan the weekend meals.  The last day to a sign up for White Pines is tomorrow.  LAST Board of Review before Court of Honor: Sign up on-line.

May’s Thursday Meetings

The Patrol Leaders Council has an exciting schedule of Thursday Meetings planned for the remainder of May.  Everyone is encouraged to attend all the meetings, complete requirements and have a lot of fun.

Thursday May 3:  Complete the First Aid Module and Merit Badge with Dr. Lanken.  If you missed a First Aid meeting, it is your responsibility to read and be prepared to demonstrate your proficiency in the First Aid skills.  There will be leaders available to review and test your knowledge and skills and sign off on your books.  Scout Guides and Instructors are required to help in this endeavor.  Quartermasters and other will be working on the trailer in preparation for White Pines.

Friday May 4:  Scout Cabin Outing for First Years to complete the Scout Rank.  This is your opportunity to complete the Scout Rank before the Court of Honor.  Study and practice your knots and review the Youth Protection pamphlet with your parents.  Be prepared to complete the requirements for the Cyber Chip.  Scout Guides and Instructors are required to help in this endeavor.

  • Scout Rank and Star Rank need to acquire the Cyber Chip. Go to http://www.netsmartz.org/scouting to review the requirements.  Once you have completed the Read, Write and Watch requirements, please sign up on the Troop 24 website to schedule a meeting to complete the Teach and Talk requirements.  We have the Cards.  The chip expires after one year, see Scoutmaster to “Recharge” or renew the Chip.

Physical Fitness Week at Troop 24

Its Physical Fitness Week at Troop 24.  We will be completing Tenderfoot Requirement 6a this Thursday so make sure you come with your running shoes and are prepared.  Scouts should start working on Tenderfoot Requirement 6b, the 30 day fitness log so as to be completed and turned in by May 31 when we complete Tenderfoot 6c.

We will resume and finish First Aid next week, May 3.  If you missed any of the First Aid meetings, be prepared to complete your missing requirements next week in order to earn the First Aid Merit Badge and complete all the First Aid advancement requirements.

May 17 is the Spring Court of Honor and this Thursday will be the last opportunity to sit for a Board of Review to be recognized at the Court of Honor.  Sign up for the Board of Review online if you are ready.

Please turn in Checks for Summer Camp made payable to Troop 24 in the amount of $300 unless you have popcorn credits.
