Refreshments Needed for Court of Honor
We need refreshments to feed scouts & parents at our Court of Honor this Thursday, May 19. Carrie Staubus will be coordinating this, but we need volunteers to help set up and clean up. If you can bring food, please e-mail Carrie at carriestaubus@earthlink.net. Suggestions are cookies, brownies, fruit, cheese & crackers, veggies & dip, hummus or guacamole & chips. Thanks!
MORE INFO on Medical Forms
All scouts and adults must have a current BSA medical form in order to attend summer camp or any other overnights or outings. Please schedule your physical now to ensure that you can get an early summer exam appointment. We need to send copies of medical forms to camp two weeks before camp.
When you turn in your medical forms, at the bottom of Part A you are asked what adults are authorized to take your scout to/from events. Please fill in: Any Troop 24 leader or parent, or a bus company hired by Troop 24.
Please submit your forms one-sided. It makes it much easier for us to collate.
Don’t forget to include the front & back of your insurance card.
BSA medical forms are available at this link:

If you will be attending a high adventure program – ATV, Isle Royale, or Scuba, you must also review Part D of the form with your physician. Part D of the form is available at this link: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_D_WB.pdf
Scuba participants must also have PADI medical statement completed and signed by their physician. Scuba medical forms: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_D_WB.pdf
Personal Fitness MB – continue working
Scouts already working on the personal fitness merit badge should continue to do so by recording all exercise in their weekly logs. Scouts can also begin completing the rest of the worksheet, if you haven’t downloaded it; here is a link: http://www.usscouts.org/usscouts/mb/worksheets/Personal-Fitness.pdf
Note that part of the worksheet requires scouts to describe a medical examination. This exam is also part of the requirements for medical form for camp Tesomas, so why not get two things done at once.
We will not have a scheduled MB session during the troop meetings on May 12 or May 19, but we will ask all scouts to complete a timed mile run, sit-ups and push-ups on their own. We will plan a few additional merit badge sessions during June, so stay tuned for specific dates & times.
Help Needed for Eagle Project
Elijah O’s Eagle Project is collecting stuffed animals and washing them, then donating them to the Cicero Health Center for pediatric patients. He needs scout help in checking the collection boxes at various locations around town, and posting flyers at area businesses.
One scout volunteer is needed for each location, to check at least twice per week and pick up animals that have been left in the donation boxes. You would then drop off the animals to Elijah’s house. If you are able to help, select one of these locations:
Riverside Presbyterian Church
Riverside Township Hall
North Riverside Commons
Hauser Jr. High
If you are willing to put up flyers, you can do this at your convenience. You would just go to a business, church, or community building and ask permission to post a flyer.
If a scout or parent can arrange another location for a collection box, please contact Elijah. (District 96 schools, with the exception of Hauser, were not willing to host collection boxes.)
Missing Sash
Does anyone recall seeing a boy scout sash that was last seen at our fall Court of Honor? Cody Lanken’s sash is missing. It would be fairly distinctive because he earned many merit badges. If you have any idea where it might be, please contact Stephanie at stlanken@yahoo.com.
