Bring Books to Meeting!

Our scouts accomplished a lot at summer camp. We need to make sure we have captured this information for our “Troopmaster” tracking program. In order to do so, we need to review scouts’ books. PLEASE BRING YOUR BOOKS to the Troop meeting on Thursday and turn them in to be recorded.

Changing of the Guard

As some of you are aware, our esteemed Scoutmaster, Tom Hartwig, recently announced his (semi)retirement. Although he is stepping down as Scoutmaster, he will continue to be involved in the Troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

We are pleased to announce that John Flaherty has agreed to be our next Scoutmaster. John has served on the Troop Committee for several years. He has two sons in scouts–one a junior and the other a sophomore.

Thank you, Tom and John, for your commitment to Troop 24!

Lifesaving – Wednesday, October 21

The cost is $20, and both classes meet from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Eagle Scout requirements are 21 merit badges, with 13 of them being required badges. A scout can earn:

  • Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling, with Swimming being the easiest
  • Lifesaving OR Emergency Preparedness, and a scout has to earn Swimming before taking Lifesaving

To sign up for the merit badges classes, contact:
PAV YMCA
2947 South Oak Park Avenue
Berwyn, Illinois 60402
(708) 749-0606

Scouts who are not swimmers may want to sign up for swim classes. Some of the Troop outings require scouts to have earned the Swimming Merit Badge (canoeing & kayaking for example).

Sign-up Deadline for Camp Inferno 9/13/15

Reminder: The deadline to sign up to go to Camp Inferno is Sunday, September 13. Nineteen scouts have signed up already. This event is held every three years and is one of the most popular outings the Troop attends. Don’t miss out! Because this event is sponsored by another Council, you MUST sign up by the deadline. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS will be accepted.

Three leaders and one parent have signed up to go. We need more parents to go or we won’t have enough vehicles to transport our scouts. Any parent can attend; you do not have to be registered with the BSA. Because of the distance, it’s not feasible to drive but not stay.

Parents:

Review the order form with your Scout before he sells door-to-door. Please fill in your Scout’s name / phone on the order form and inform customers that their popcorn order will be delivered the second week of November.

Payment must be collected at the time of purchase – all checks should be written to Boy Scout Troop 24.

Donation Receipts are available for Military Donations of $30 and $50. Donations at these two levels are for gifts of popcorn to the military, their families and veteran’s organizations.

Scouts who log into or sign up for online selling by September 30 will be eligible to win a $10 Amazon gift card – Go to sell.trails-end.com, fill out the registration information and select SIGN UP.
