Merit Badges to be Offered at Troop Meetings

CORRECTION: Citizenship in the World tonight with JOHN FLAHERTY (not Ingrid)

TONIGHT, October 24, two of our parent merit badge counselors will be at the meeting to begin:

7:10 p.m. – Family Life with Rick Andersen (should be older scouts, 1st Class & above)
7:40 p.m. – Citizenship in the World with John Flaherty

On November 7 scouts can begin:

7:10 p.m. – Communication with Ingrid Lulich
7:40 p.m. – Personal Fitness with Stephanie Lanken

All of these merit badges are required for Eagle rank. Most of the requirements for the merit badge must be completed independently, outside of the meeting. These initial meetings are to introduce the merit badge and explain to interested scouts what is expected. Follow-up meetings will be scheduled later when scouts let us know that they have completed the items. Scouts are expected to be attentive, and should not start a merit badge unless they are committed to working on it.

Scouts who intend to work on these merit badges should print out the worksheets and bring them to the meeting:

Survey for Parents of 8th Grade & Older Scouts

Parents of older scouts: We need your input on high adventure outings. There is a strong belief in scouting that troops that offer High Adventure opportunities have a higher rate of participation and are more likely to retain older scouts. However, High Adventure treks are more expensive than traditional summer camp, involve significant advance preparation, and require dedicated adult leader commitment.

High Adventure treks are typically 1-2 week wilderness adventures such as backpacking in remote areas, rock climbing, scuba diving, canoeing or kayaking, or whitewater rafting. Scouts must be 14 years old or be 13 and have completed 8th grade in order to participate.

PLEASE take 5 minutes to fill it out a survey to provide input on high adventure interests. Take the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Tqou0QGHTXVnuqxZAR3P9jiSQfoPaH3tO-hMDgwU5nI/viewform

The older scouts will be discussing this at the meeting on October 24, so please complete the survey TODAY. This will help us determine the number of scouts and leaders with high interest or commitment, trek preferences, and will allow us to evaluate our options.
