Den Chief Training on October 26

One of the jobs available to boy scouts (for rank advancement) is to serve as a Den Chief. A Den Chief helps Cub Scout Den Leaders and Webelos Leaders with Den Meetings (usually once or twice per month).

Any scout who is interested in becoming a den chief should attend the training, which will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:30 to noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division Street, River Forest, IL 60305.

Popcorn Orders Due October 17

ALL popcorn orders are due to our Popcorn Kernel TONIGHT. Scouts can bring orders to the meeting, or order forms and payment can be dropped off at Anne Kodama’s home. Please contact Anne at amkodama@sbcglobal.net to get directions to her house and schedule a drop-off time. Orders must be accompanied by full payment (in other words, if your scout took any orders without getting payment, you will need to pay for the popcorn and get paid when it’s delivered. Scouts should not have sold with an I.O.U.). Parents: please tally counts by popcorn variety and check the totals to be sure the money turned in equals the amount ordered. Our Popcorn Kernel requests checks only. If your scout collected cash, please keep the cash and write a check to Troop 24 for that amount. Your scout’s names should be on all order forms, and forms and checks should be placed in an envelope. Please contact Anne with any questions.

Canned Food Drive

Our scouts have been asked to participate in RPC’s annual canned food drive. If possible, please bring some type of canned food to the Court of Honor on October 17, or the Troop Meeting on October 24.

Court of Honor October 17

REMINDER: This Thursday, October 17, is our fall Court of Honor. Scouts will be recognized for advancement and receive merit badges, etc. All scouts are expected to attend unless they have an unavoidable conflict. For parents new to the process, you should know that parents are called to the front when their scout receives a rank advancement, so your presence is also necessary.

There is a change in venue for this Court of Honor. We will meet in the RPC sanctuary rather than the Social Hall. The Social Hall has been booked by a film crew shooting scenes in Riverside. The filming is supposed to occur on Scottswood Road so parking may be a problem. We suggest you park in the Swim Club parking lot and walk to the church. Enter the middle door rather than the usual door on the left.

Congratulations, Abraham!

Congratulations to Troop 24′s newest Eagle Scout, Abraham Ourth!

Feed Our Community

On Saturday, October 19, the Riverside-North Riverside Covenant of Churches is sponsoring a food packaging project to create nutritious meals for families in our communities. Scouts will receive service hour credit for participating. There is a cost to participate (minimum donation of $10 per person; or a recommended donation of $25, which will purchase ingredients for 100 meals). To participate, please register as early as possible this week.

Date:  Saturday, October 19, 2013

Location:  North Riverside Village Commons Gym

Time:  1 hour shifts from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Register online:
http://www.feed6.org/feed-our-community-day-registration.html

This project is pre-approved, so you do not need a scoutmaster signature in advance; however, scouts should take the Troop service hour form to their shift(s) and have an adult in charge sign the form and note the number of hours worked. The service hour form can be downloaded here:  http://troop24riverside.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Service-Hour-Form.pdf
