CAMP TESOMAS INFO MEETING ON THURSDAY APRIL 11th in the Riverside Presbyterian Church Social Hall at the same time as the Troop meeting.

The meeting is open to all parents planning to send or thinking about sending their Scouts to camp this summer.

If you can’t attend, but have a question, feel free to email to Carolyn Lach [clach@northpark.edu] or Carrie Staubus [carrie@staubus.net] for response, and sharing during the meeting.

Troop 24 has its group campsite at Tesomas reserved for July 14 to July 20. Sign up on our Troop website will be opened soon.

Camp Tesomas is a great opportunity to enjoy the waterfront, shooting sports, merit badge programs, and life at the camp-site, and a chance to just have some fun in the great outdoors with your fellow Scouts.

Robert M. Eagle Project – Volunteers Needed!

***This project has been postponed due to project area conditions caused by the recent weather.***
***More info on new work dates will be posted soon.***

Robert M. will have two upcoming workdays for his Eagle Project, and is seeking help from Troop members.

Project Summary:
Across the street from Riverside Brookfield High School there is the Zoo Woods forest preserve. On the northern side of these woods there are a series of deer exclusion cages which protect plants from being eaten by deer. These cages are in disrepair due to damage from fallen limbs as well as deer. Robert’s project will involve clearing out debris from around the cages (large branches, other plant matter as well as garbage) before installing new cages and planting plants within these new cages.

The work days for Robert’s Eagle Project will be April 19th and April 20th. Many scouts have the Friday off due to it being Good Friday. The shifts will be 2 hours each and there will be three shifts each day. The first shift will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the second shift will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and the third shift will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Robert is looking for about 5-6 scouts and two adult volunteers per shift.

Safety concerns:
The scouts will need to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants, closed toe shoes (preferably boots as the shoes will get muddy). In addition, Robert will send a follow up email a few days before the project in which he will send the scouts/adults the waiver that they will need to sign as well as any other updates. In order to do this please provide an email address which you check regularly when you sign up as a volunteer.

Don’t Miss These Service Hour Opportunities!

Service is part of Scouting and EVERY Boy Scout must participate in service projects to advance in rank. But service goes beyond advancement requirements. It is also a great chance for Scouts striving towards becoming a member of the Order of the Arrow to practice “cheerful service.” Whether you volunteer as an individual or you help out at a troop group service project, volunteering is fun!

Be sure to take a Service Hour Form to your service project! All service hour forms should be signed by someone from the beneficiary.

Check out all the ways you can make a difference and get the service hours you need!

Troop Meeting – Thursday, April 4

First Aid Month is upon us!

On Thursday, we will master Tenderfoot requirements 4a, b, c, d and 5a, culminating with Patrol-based skill-checks.

Those of you who have mastered these skills can act as coaches for the younger Scouts.

All of that, time permitting, will be followed up a fun game.

Finally, patrols will announce their new names and cheers, and display their new flags.

TENT RETURN: if you still have a tent from the Cantigny camp-out, be sure to return it.

Remember to wear your Scout uniform and bring your Scout Handbook to all meetings and troop events!

SPECIAL EVENTS:

The Camp Tesomas Overview/Q&A session will take place on Thursday, April 11th. Open to all families attending or considering Summer Camp this year.

The April 18th meeting will take place at the Scout Cabin.

First Aid Month & Volunteers Needed!

First Aid Month is upon us!

Like many Scout skills, First Aid must be practiced and repeated to become part of your Scoutcraft tool-kit, even after the merit badge is earned!

To prepare for Thursday’s meeting, take a few moments to review Tenderfoot requirements 4a, b, c, d and 5a.

If you’ve mastered those, you can move on to Second Class 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e.

Those of you who have mastered these skills can act as coaches for the younger Scouts, in anticipation of Patrol-based skill-checks at the end of the meetings.

More to follow in tomorrow’s announcement!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for an Eagle Board of Review on Thursday April 11th

The troop is in need of 3-4 adults to sit on an Eagle Board of Review on Thursday April 11th at 7:00 pm. Sitting on an Eagle Board is a very rewarding opportunity to be a part of a Scout’s final step to achieving the rank of Eagle. If you have not sat on an Eagle Board before, we can provide you with some resources to familiarize yourself with topics that are discussed at the Board. Additionally, the Board is run by our Council Representative.

We will meet at the Riverside Presbyterian Church in the Parlor. The time commitment is approximately 1 to 1- 1/2 hours.

If you can help one of our Scouts earn his Eagle, please email me at dmgmitro@aol.com. Thank you!
