Help needed with Pinewood Derby – January 28

Pack 24’s annual pinewood derby will be held next weekend on Saturday, January 28, and they are seeking help from our scouts.  Any Troop 24 scout that wishes to work a one hour shift will  earn a service hour, and will also have lunch or a treat, courtesy of the pack.

Our scouts will be managing the race by setting up the pinewood cars, and retrieving them to bring back to the starting gates.  Boy scouts may also help supervise the movie room.

Shifts are available in one-hour blocks starting at 1:00pm.  The racing is expected to wrap up at 3:00pm so the last shift will help with clean up.

Thanks in advance for your help.  Click here to sign up today.

2017 Winter Outing Form

Bowling Outing – January 19, 2017

Troop 24 will be meeting at the AMF Forest Lanes, located at 7700 47th St in Lyons instead of RPC for our January 19 meeting. The troop has made a group reservation so all of our scouts will be bowling together. The cost is $13 per person which includes two games and shoe rental.

Scouts should come directly to the bowling alley for this meeting. Plan on a 6:45 check in so you have time to pick out a bowling ball (unless you have one) and rent shoes. As this is a normally-scheduled troop meeting, scouts should come in their class A uniform.

Plan on picking up your scout by 8:30pm. Parents are welcome to participate in this event. Parents and adults must register online and pay if you intend to bowl.

Waterfall Glen Outing November 5, 2016

On November 5, Troop 24 will be going to Waterfall Glen for our annual orienteering outing.

This is the only opportunity we have, outside of camp, for scouts to complete their First Class Orienteering Requirements:

It is very important for scouts who need Orienteering to attend this outing.

Scouts also have the option of completing the five mile hike required for Second Class rank.

Scouts who are working on the Cooking Merit Badge have the chance to complete backpacking cooking requirements. This is only for scouts who already started the Merit Badge (at Tesomas). For these scouts, some Cooking Merit Badge prerequisites will be completed at the meetings October 27 and November 3.  Please review the requirements ahead of time and be prepared to discuss them.  You will need to bring your Cooking Merit Badge worksheets, books, paper and pen to the meetings.

On this hike, we will be joined by Webelos 2 Cub Scouts from Pack 24 and Pack 120. Please give a warm welcome to our future Troop 24 members!

We will be leaving Riverside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 5, at 7:30 a.m. and will return by mid-late afternoon.  Those working on the Cooking merit badge should bring their cooking supplies, other scouts should bring a sack lunch. There is no cost to attend. This outing will be taking place outside, so please dress accordingly.  Scouts must travel in their Class A uniforms.  We will also need chaperones/drivers to help with this outing. Please sign up by November 1.

White Pines November 11-13, 2016: Leader/Chaperone/Driver Form

Impromptu Camping this Saturday

Troop 24 will be joining the traditional pack 24 scout cabin camp this Saturday, October 15.  We will be focusing on cooking requirements and other advancement opportunities for scouts that are first class and below.   If your scout would like to work on specific advancement requirements, please let us know in advance.

Our plan is to meet at the scout cabin on Fairbank Road in Riverside on Saturday afternoon, specific time is TBD.  We are targeting a cost of $15 per scout to cover the cost of ingredients for dinner and breakfast.  Payment should be brought to the event with checks made out to Troop 24.

While this is last minute (aka “impromptu”) we need to have a headcount by end-of-day on Friday (October 14) to finalize arrangements and get the logistics in order.  Email assistant scoutmaster Lisa Gaynor (ltgaynor@aol.com) or Jim Jerz (jiminov@hotmail.com) with any questions.  Please click here to register by the deadline.
