Musekegon Luge Update

A few parents have asked about the weight of the luge sleds. We don’t know the exact weight, but it’s probably around 30 pounds. Luge participants must be able to carry the luge to the top of the track. If you or your scout wants to see a video of the luge, visit: http://www.msports.org/. The complex also has a skating rink ($8 for pass & skate rental) for those who get tired of the luge. We have 9 scouts signed up, but so far no adults/leaders. Obviously, we can’t provide the outing unless we have some adults sign up. If your scout is going, please consider whether you would be able to attend as well. There is no cost for leaders’ lodging or food, but if you plan to luge, the adult cost is $40.

You must both register AND pay in order to be eligible to attend. Adults who wish to luge must also register and pay ($40) for the luge. Please print and return the waiver form ASAP. You cannot luge without it. Scouts should meet at the RPC at 8:45 Saturday, January 14, and will return early afternoon on Sunday, January 15. Scouts will be sleeping in a hotel with a pool. I&M Canal Outing

On September 17-18, there was a biking trip to the I&M Canal. To get to the campsite the 10 scouts and 4 leaders went for a four-mile bike ride along the canal. When all of the scouts got there, they set up their tents. Everything else had already been set up by Mrs. Hopkins and Abraham O. The scouts’ campsite was directly across the canal from the Harborside Marina along the DesPlaines River. After that, the scouts made a foil dinner. The foil dinner is a variety of meats and vegetables wrapped in foil and warmed by being put in the fire. After dinner, some scouts went to sleep, and some goofed off. When the scouts woke up it was raining. They put away the tents and had dry cereal for breakfast in a pavilion. They then drove back to Riverside and were dropped off at their houses.
