Get Tied Up at Thursday’s Meeting!!!

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22 TROOP 24 MEETING 7:00 PM

  • BRING SCOUT BOOK TO ALL MEETINGS.
  • First Aid instruction has been concluded for all scouts who have yet to reach First Class. If you still have incomplete First Aid rank advancement requirements, see Dr. Lanken or any of the leaders.
  • KNOTS:  Thursday instruction and review will be knots: Scout #4a and Tenderfoot #3a-c.  Review and be prepared.
  • Fire Safety Merit Badge: Complete requirements 6b-h, 7, & 8 and Be Prepared to demonstrate and discuss.  Requirement 6a must be completed at home.
  • SPARTANS PATROL is in charge of meeting set-up, FLAGS, and clean-up. Report at 6:45pm in Full Uniform.
  • “First Aid Baseball” Tournament will continue during Interpatrol Activity/game time. NUCLEAR OCTOPI vs SPARTANS and ICEBERG vs. ROYAL FLUSH.
  • Scouts working toward Tenderfoot should be keeping a log of their physical fitness activities 6b:“Develop and describe a plan for improvement in each of the activities listed in Tenderfoot 6a.  Keep track of your activity for at least 30 days.” We will be completing Tenderfoot 6b & 6c during the first October meetings.  Be Prepared to turn in your activity log.
  • Board of Review will be September 29. Sign up on Website if you completed a Scoutmaster Conference.
  • First Installment Due for Florida Sea Base trip.  Sign up on the Website and bring your payment to the meeting.
  • Okpik Winter Camping Training for any scout 14 yoa or older and any Adult Leaders. Register: https://scoutingevent.com/456-9072.

Thursday September 15 – What’s Happening!!

The Warren Dunes Camp Out was a lot of fun and everyone got wet.  Kudos to the Scouts and Leaders for weathering the rain to see a beautiful Saturday afternoon and evening.  Thank you to Mr. Snyder, Mr. Lauger and Dr. Lanken for organizing and preparing our First Aid Meet.  Saturday afternoon saw a truly epic game of Capture the Flag in the Great Warren Dunes Natural Area and playing in the Lake Michigan surf.  Photographs have been posted to https://troop24.smugmug.com/20160909-Warren-Dunes/

TUESDAY September 13:  Patrol Leaders Council meeting, 6:30-7:30, Westminster Room.

THURSDAY September 15:

  • First Aid instruction and First Aid Merit Badge will conclude for all scouts who have yet to reach First Class. Thursday Sept. 8 Meeting – Be Prepared

The first troop meeting of the year was a success.  The scouts formed new patrols, elected patrol leaders and chose troop jobs.  If you missed the meeting, you were assigned to a patrol; rosters will be published next week.  Congratulations to new Senior Patrol Leader, Michael L, who won a hard fought, four way race for the position.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 8:

  • First Aid instruction will continue for all scouts who have yet to reach First Class. Study, Review and Be Prepared.
  • Fire Safety Merit Badge will be offered to all First Class and above. Download and print the Fire Safety MB Workbook from Meritbadge.org, complete requirements 1 & 2, and Be Prepared to demonstrate and discuss.
  • 24th Garrison Patrol is in charge of meeting set-up, FLAGS, and clean-up. Come in full uniform.
  • Iceberg Patrol will be running the “Arm-Sling Relay” during Interpatrol Activity/game time.
  • Scouts working toward Tenderfoot should be keeping a log of their physical fitness activities. 6b:  “Develop and describe a plan for improvement in each of the activities listed in Tenderfoot 6a.  Keep track of your activity for at least 30 days.”  We will be completing Tenderfoot 6b & 6c during the first October meetings.  Be Prepared to turn in your activity log.

WELCOME TO THE NEW SCOUT YEAR

September 1 Meeting  

Welcome to the 2016-17 Scout year.  The Patrol Leaders Council has been meeting throughout the summer to plan a fun and rewarding year.  The first meeting will be Thursday, September 1 at 7:00 pm and a lot of changes and updates are in store.  We will be reorganizing the patrols and electing new patrol leaders.  We will be selecting new senior leadership and assigning troop jobs.  We will be collecting books and updating our records to identify the advancement requirements still needed.  There will be many announcements and a lot of information concerning High Adventure trips, Popcorn, Camp Outs, and meeting plans.  Your attendance at the September 1 meeting is required to participate in the patrol selection process, patrol and senior patrol leader elections, and to choose a troop job.  We are still accepting nominations for Senior Patrol Leader, September 1 – March 31 term; please submit your name to Scoutmaster Flaherty (JEF2004@msn.com).

Minimum eligibility for Senior Patrol Leader as established by the Patrol Leaders Council:

  • The SPL shall hold the rank of Star, Life or Eagle at the time of selection.
    • The SPL shall be at least a high school sophomore or 15 years of age or older.
    • The SPL shall have held the position of Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, or Den Chief in the past.
    • The SPL must make Scouting his primary commitment and commit to attending every Thursday meeting throughout the year.
    • The SPL must commit to attending, planning and leading every Patrol Leaders Council meeting throughout the year.

New Scouts: Troop Meeting April 7, 2016

All new Scouts will be completing Tenderfoot Fitness requirement #6a and will work on developing the Plan required in #6b at Thursday’s Meeting. Please come dress appropriately to work on these requirements:

6a Record your best in the following tests:
Pushups ________(Record the number done correctly in 60 seconds)
Situps or curl-ups ________(Record the number done correctly in 60 seconds)
Back-saver sit-and-reach________(Record the distance stretched)
1-mile walk/run________ (Record the time)

6b Develop and describe a plan for improvement in each of the activities listed in Tenderfoot requirement 6a. Keep track of your activity for at least 30 days.

No Troop Meetings on 3/24 and 3/31

Due to services at RPC on 3/24, and spring break on 3/31, there will be no Troop meetings for the next two weeks. Our next meeting is Thursday, April 7. New scouts will be working on Tenderfoot physical fitness requirements.

New Parent Meeting Tonight 7:15

This is just a reminder that we will have a meeting with new scout parents tonight at 7:15 p.m. in the RPC Social Hall.  The scouts go up to the 3rd floor gym, and parents can come downstairs to the lower level.

We will have forms for you to fill out, and our scoutmaster will give you an overview of Troop 24’s scout program and our spring events.   Both parents are welcome to attend, but we need at least one parent.  The cost for cross-over scouts is $25, which can be paid by check to Troop 24.

No Troop Meeting March 3

Reminder: There is no regular Troop meeting this Thursday, March 3, due to set-up for the Pancake Breakfast. Scouts assigned to set-up for the breakfast should report to the Social Hall. Please be there by 7:00.

Bring Scout Books Tonight

All scouts who are not yet First Class should bring their scout books to the meeting tonight so that we can enter their progress into our database.

Reminder: Meeting December 10

We will NOT have a regular Troop meeting this week since we have an outing on Friday night (Sky High Trampoline) and on Saturday (Vertical Endeavors Climbing).

However, we will have a Patrol Leader Meeting in lieu of the regular meeting. This will be a planning meeting for January & February meetings.
